Video: Petrol Pump Employee Refuses Fuel To Helmetless Bikers, Shot At
A petrol pump employee, who was following the district administration's order of refusing fuel to two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets, has been shot at by two men in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind.
Around 5 am on Saturday, Tej Narayan Narwaria, 55, who works at Savitri Lodhi Petrol Pump on the Bhind-Gwalior National Highway (NH-719), refused to refuel the motorcycle of two men who were not wearing helmets. The men began arguing with him and he said his hands were tied because the order had been issued by the collector.
Enraged, the men began using expletives and, moments later, opened fire. A bullet struck Mr Narwaria's hand.
CCTV footage from the pump shows one of the men shooting using a pistol and another firing from a rifle. Multiple rounds were fired, forcing terrified employees at the pump to hide.
After the men left, Mr Narwaria was rushed to the Bhind district hospital and then to a hospital in Gwalior, where his condition is reported to be stable.
Police said the attackers are residents of Bijpuri village under Bhind's rural police station limits. A wrestling event was underway in Bijpuri and the two men had stopped at the petrol pump to refuel their bike.
Barohi police station in-charge Atul Bhadoria said, "We have identified the accused through CCTV footage and a manhunt is on. They will be arrested soon."

UK Nurse Wins Rs 30 Lakh After Co-Worker's Eye-Rolling Sparks Panic Attacks
A dental nurse who faced constant eye-rolling and belittling from a colleague has been awarded over 25,254 pounds (Rs 30 lakh) in a groundbreaking employment tribunal, according to The Times. The decision establishes that non-verbal actions like eye-rolling can count as workplace bullying, making employers responsible if staff use such behaviour against others. This case shows how small actions can create a toxic work atmosphere and result in significant legal consequences.
According to The Times, Maureen Howieson, 64, a dental nurse with more than 40 years of experience, was awarded the compensation after an Edinburgh tribunal concluded she was a victim of "rude, isolating, bullying and belittling" behaviour at the Great Junction Dental Practice in Edinburgh.
The tribunal heard that Howieson's relationship with a new dental therapist, Jisna Iqbal, became "strained" shortly after Iqbal was hired following the practice's acquisition in July 2024.
Iqbal, who was a qualified dentist in India but not yet eligible to practise in the UK, began taking over Howieson's receptionist duties, a role she had held for years.
According to The Metro, Maureen Howieson accused Mrs Iqbal of being 'rude and disrespectful' when they worked together.
She also claimed her colleague repeatedly ignored her and rolled her eyes if she spoke.
Mrs Iqbal rejected the claims, but the panel accepted the other woman's version of events.'
The situation escalated further in September 2024 when Ms Howieson was brought to tears at work, prompting her to have a meeting with the clinic owner, Dr Fary Johnson Vithayathil.
She had told a colleague she had been 'reduced to being a cleaner'.
The following day, Mrs Iqbal allegedly refused to leave the reception when Ms Howieson was meant to start her afternoon shift.
She was told that Dr Vithayathil's wife, the business manager, would speak with Mrs Iqbal, which didn't happen.
Ms Howieson ended up having a panic attack due to stress.

Jobs, Exports, Growth At Risk: How US Tariffs May Impact India
Starting August 27, Indian exporters will face one of the harshest trade actions in recent memory - the United States will double down on duties, slapping a 50 per cent tariff on a wide range of goods from India.
25 per cent tariff on India is already in place, imposed by the Trump administration and another 25 per cent as retaliation for India's continued purchases of Russian crude oil and military equipment, will come into effect on Wednesday.
According to the economic think tank GTRI, the impact will be sweeping. Nearly two-thirds of India's exports to the US, worth close to $60 billion, will be caught in the new tariff net, making them far costlier in American markets and eroding their competitiveness against rivals.
Former ICAI President Ved Jain explained the difficult situation India finds itself in, "The Russian oil import India is making is because it is economically viable. Now, in case we do not buy Russian oil, we will be economically inefficient, so that's not possible because the economy will suffer. So, we have to make a choice between the two evils - that we stop Russian oil, then we become economically inefficient and continue with export. On the other hand, we say, no, we will continue to be economically efficient by buying Russian oil, but we will face the music which comes to us in the shape of exports and some challenges which are there on that part."
Labour-intensive sectors such as textiles, gems and jewellery, carpets, shrimp, and furniture, are bracing for a severe shock. Small and medium businesses are especially vulnerable, and widespread job losses loom as a possibility.
Bhadresh Dodhia, a textile factory owner, highlighted the unsustainable pressures on exporters:
"To be honest it's a no-go and non-starter for any importer to take such a big hit on any imports, especially when it comes to the textile value chain - the whole supply chain is working on a very thin margin. To absorb such a heavy increase in the tariff, I am afraid it's only the consumers who will have to bear [the additional cost] eventually. For the short term, we are all waiting for a miracle to happen and an additional 25 per cent tariff to go away."
But analysts warn the damage won't be limited to India. The US itself could face economic blowback in the form of higher prices and slower growth.
Economist SP Sharma stressed the risks to the American economy, "I don't see that this is going to benefit the US economy in any way, because it will increase their inflation trajectory, which is already high, because more than 2 per cent inflation in the US is not tolerable. So, they have to bring down their inflation scenario in the coming times. If the inflation remains high, then the US economy will not be able to grow at a normal rate also. And their growth rate is not that impressive, they grew at around 1.4 per cent during the earlier Trump tenure of 2017 to 2020. So, I believe again, they will face such a slowdown if they are increasing the tariff at such rates of 25 per cent or 50 per cent on the major suppliers."
India's exports to the US, currently about $86.5 billion, are projected to shrink to $49.6 billion by FY26. While 30 per cent of exports will remain duty-free and 4 per cent will attract a 25 per cent duty, a massive 66 per cent ($60.2 billion), covering some of India's most important export categories, will be slapped with the 50 per cent tariff.
The immediate winners will be competitors such as China, Vietnam, Mexico, and Turkey, who are poised to fill the gap as US buyers look elsewhere. Moreover, the US accounts for 18 per cent of India's total goods exports, the fallout from Washington's tariffs is set to have severe economic disruption for targeted industries.

'Thanks For Making My...': Kohli's Unique Message After Pujara's Retirement
Legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli congratulated compatriot and Test great Cheteshwar Pujara on the closure of a remarkable career in whites, also thanking India's designated number three batter for making his job at coming in at four much easier after blunting the new ball enough to be feasted on by the middle-order. Pujara called time on a successful international career for India on Sunday, marking an end to a 13-year career where he did the thankless job of tackling the new and shiny red ball, tiring down bowlers in order to make things easy for the Indian middle-order.
Pujara made his international debut against Australia in Bengaluru on October 9, 2010. He played a total of 103 Tests and amassed 7,195 runs at an average of 43.60. Pujara slammed 19 hundreds and 35 half-centuries throughout his international career, with a highest score of 206*. He also played five ODIs, scoring 51 runs.
Taking to his Instagram, Virat wrote on his story, "Thank you for making my job easier at 4 Pujji. You've had an amazing career. Congratulations and wish you the best for what's ahead. God bless."
With the type of technique, drive to stay for long, and consistency he enjoyed, Pujara could well have touched the coveted 10,000-run mark, something only three Indians have touched. But the most significant aspect of his game was the number of balls he faced while at the crease. His major blocking and knocking the ball around for occasional singles, doubles, or a boundary meant that the bowlers were left tired and demotivated, and the shine had worn off the ball, making it old enough to be dispatched to all corners of the park by more flamboyant strikers, be it Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane, etc. From his debut in October 2010 to the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in 2023, only four players faced more deliveries than Pujara's number of 16,217 in whites, namely Joe Root (19,562), Alastair Cook (17,534), Steven Smith (16,495), and Azhar Ali (16,301), as per ESPNcricinfo.
Only his predecessor, Rahul Dravid (10,524 runs in 134 Tests with 28 centuries) has more runs at this spot for India than Pujara's total of 6,529 runs (94 Tests at an average of 44.41, with 18 centuries), a proof of his quality of batsmanship and consistency.
Apart from international cricket, Pujara was a domestic legend with over 21,301 runs from 278 first-class games. He slammed 66 tons and 81 half-centuries throughout his first-class career.

Boy, Diagnosed With Typhoid, Prescribed Drugs To Treat Diabetes, Heart Issue
A ten-year-old boy, who was diagnosed with typhoid and pneumonia, was prescribed medicines used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and heart-related chest pain (angina) in Maharashtra's Kalyan, close to Mumbai.
The negligence of the doctors has been reported from Manomi Multi Speciality Hospital in Kalyan's Aadharwadi Chowk.
The child was going to the hospital for treatment for three days when a doctor prescribed him these medicines. On one page, medicines usually prescribed for typhoid treatment were written, while on another, medicines which had no connection with the treatment of the disease were written.
He was prescribed Sitagliptin Phosphate and Metformin Hydrochloride tablets - used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and St Sprin 75 - used to treat and prevent heart attacks, strokes and heart-related chest pain.
His mother, Ankita Ravi Gaikwad, said that she went to the doctor to ask if the medicines were correct. "The doctor told us that the medicines were correct," she said.
The family got to know the purpose of these medicines when they took the boy to another doctor to get an injection.
"There we got to know that he was given these medicines for (treating) diabetes and other medicines," the mother had said.
The hospital administration has also confirmed the incident and said that the wrong medicine was indeed given to the child. They have also said that as soon as they realised the mistake, the child's family was informed not to give the medicine.
A doctor at the hospital said that Dr Rusha, who had the boy's case, was handling another patient as well and mistakenly mixed up the prescriptions.
"She didn't see what mistake she had made, and she told the boy to take the medicine," said Dr Sunny Singh.
"As soon as I came to the office in the morning. I inquired about the condition of the patients," he said, adding, as soon as he got to know about the mix-up, he informed the 10-year-old's family.
"I told him that he shouldn't take those medicines. I asked him to take the injection. I told him that the medicine was wrong and he should take the injection.
The boy's family has said that they would file a case against the hospital.

Locked In School Overnight, Head Stuck In Window: Class 2 Girl's Nightmare
A nightmare unfolded for a little girl and her family in Odisha on Thursday. The class 2 girl went to her school on Thursday morning, but didn't return home after her classes got over at 4 pm.
The staff of the government school locked the classroom and left for the day, failing to notice the 8-year-old girl was still inside. Her family looked for her all night but to no avail.
In a desperate attempt to escape, the girl tried to get out of a window with iron bars attached to it.
While she managed to get her entire body out of the window, her head got stuck between the bars. The girl, identified as Jyotsna Dehuri, had to spend the night in the same uncomfortable position.
The incident took place at the Government Upper Primary School at Anjar under Banspal block in Keonjhar district.
This morning, when the school cook came and opened the locks at 9 am, she saw the girl.
Then the villagers and the family members of the girl opened the door of the classroom and bent the iron bars to rescue her.
She was then rushed to the district headquarters hospital for treatment. The School and Mass Education Department has informed that the girl is now fine.
Taking the incident seriously, the district administration has suspended headmaster (in charge) Gourahari Mahanta, reported news agency PTI.

"Untenable": Centre As Nepal Objects To India-China Trade Through Lipulekh
India on Wednesday rejected Nepal's opposition to the resumption of border trade with China through the Lipulekh Pass, calling Kathmandu's territorial claims "unjustified, untenable, and not supported by historical facts."
The statement came after Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs objected to the reopening of India-China trade through the Himalayan pass, a route that cuts through the Kalapani-Lipulekh-Limpiyadhura region. Kathmandu maintains the territory lies within Nepal, citing its map and historical treaties.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India's position was "consistent and clear."
"We have noted the comments of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal related to resumption of border trade between India and China through the Lipulekh Pass. Our position in this regard has been consistent and clear. Border trade between India and China through Lipulekh pass had commenced in 1954 and has been going on for decades. This trade had been disrupted in recent years due to Covid and other developments, and both sides have now agreed to resume it," he said in a statement.
Mr Jaiswal called it a "unilateral act" and termed as "untenable" the "artificial enlargement" of the territorial claims by Nepal. India maintains Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura belongs to it.
Addressing Nepal's objections, Mr Jaiswal said, "As regards territorial claims, our position remains that such claims are neither justified nor based on historical facts and evidence. Any unilateral artificial enlargement of territorial claims is untenable. India remains open to constructive interaction with Nepal on resolving agreed outstanding boundary issues through dialogue and diplomacy."
Nepal shares a border of over 1,850 km with five Indian states - Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
On Wednesday Nepal said that the territory is its inseparable part and also incorporated in its official map.
"The Nepal government is clear that Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani, situated East of Mahakali river, are inseparable parts of Nepal. These are also officially incorporated in the Nepalese map, included in the Constitution as well," the Nepal foreign ministry said.
A joint document released on Tuesday after wide-ranging talks in New Delhi between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said both sides agreed to re-open border trade through the three designated trading points, namely Lipulekh Pass, Shipki La Pass and Nathu La Pass.
The Nepal foreign ministry statement comes in response to questions raised by Nepalese media regarding the announcement by India and China to resume border trade through Lipulekh.
"It is a well-known fact that the Nepal government has been requesting the government of India not to construct or expand roads and indulge in any kind of activity such as border trade in the territory," read the statement issued by spokesperson of the foreign ministry, Lok Bahadur Chhetri.
"It is also well known that the Nepal government has already informed the government of China that the area lies in Nepalese territory," it added.
"The Nepal government is committed to resolving the border issue between the two countries through diplomatic channels on the basis of historical treaty - agreement, facts, map and other evidence complying with the spirit of cordial and friendly relations existing between Nepal and India," read the statement.
On June 18, 2020, Nepal completed the process to update the country's political map by incorporating three strategically important areas Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura areas by amending its Constitution.

Canadian Man Slams Indian Family For Playing Music At Beach, Sparks Debate
A Canadian man has sparked a heated debate on social media after criticising an Indian family for playing loud music at a beach. In a video shared on Instagram, the man, who goes by @truenorthlooper online, described himself as a one-man band. He claimed that the city authorities once stopped him from performing at a beach and fined him for the same, but are allowing others to "blast whatever kind of music they want". While complaining, he stopped in front of a picnic blanket with bags on it and a speaker playing Punjabi music.
"This is another example of coming down to the beach and blasting whatever kind of music you want and at whatever volume you want. These people are not even here, yet everyone within 150 feet has to listen to this. Great job, City of Barrie," the man said sarcastically.
He went on to criticise the authorities for fining him for playing guitar at the beach.
"Heaven forbid, I play guitar and raise money for the Barrie Food Bank. That's a no-no. But yeah, come here and blast whatever music you want, you don't even have to listen to it, go play in the water while everyone else will have to listen to it," he added.
The video was originally shared with the title "The good, the bad and the ugly reality of the City of Barrie". It resurfaced after being shared by a Canadian Instagram page.
In the comments section, users had mixed reactions. While some agreed with him, others asked him to stop hating on other people.
"Just confront them about it? Or request for slightly lower volume? I don't understand, is it a new trend to come and cry to the internet as a full grown man? Cmon man. Find another spot, or request them. Weeping on the internet is not it. Smh," one user wrote.
"life is not that long to hate or jealous someone .. just enjoy everyday of your life .. live n let live," commented another.
"Man this is just ridiculous, i think it's perfectly okay to do this. People these days be creating drama for no reason just bring the immigrants down. Last week i went to beach and english music was playing all over but guess what I didn't go pick up on anyone and minded my own gad damn business, get a life old bag," said a third user.
"Typical Canadians always complaining about someone or something that doesn't suit them....just stay home...stop complaining just enjoy the day...let people be," wrote one user.

Influencer With 1.2 Million Followers Arrested In Rs 40-Crore Laundering Case
An 'entrepreneur' with over 1.2 million followers on Instagram, whose bio also states that she is an actor, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a Rs 40-crore money laundering case.
The case against Sandeepa Virk stems from a first information report (FIR) lodged at a police station in Mohali under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code, in which she was accused of defrauding individuals by soliciting money under false pretences and through misrepresentation.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out search operations on Tuesday and Wednesday at multiple locations in Delhi and Mumbai in connection with the money laundering case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
According to the ED, Ms Virk is accused of acquiring immovable properties through fraudulent means. She projected herself as the owner of hyboocare.com, a website claiming to sell FDA-approved beauty products. However, investigators found that the products were non-existent, the website lacked user registration features, faced persistent payment gateway failures, and had negligible social media presence.
Additionally, its WhatsApp contact number was inactive, and no transparent company details were available - pointing to a non-genuine commercial operation allegedly used as a front to launder funds.
The ED's probe also revealed Ms Virk's alleged links with Angarai Natarajan Sethuraman, a former director of the now-defunct Reliance Capital Limited. Search operations at Mr Sethuraman's residence allegedly confirmed his role in "illegal liaising work" and diversion of funds for personal gain.
The agency said that, in 2018, public funds worth approximately Rs 18 crore from Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd (RCFL) were disbursed to Mr Sethuraman without due diligence and under highly irregular lending terms that allowed deferments and multiple waivers. In addition, a Rs 22-crore home loan was allegedly sanctioned by Reliance Capital Limited in violation of prudential norms. Investigators said large portions of these funds were siphoned off and remain unpaid.
In a statement to news agency PTI, Mr Sethuraman dismissed the allegations as "baseless". He also denied any connection with Ms Virk or any transactions related to her.
During the raids, the ED seized incriminating documents and recorded statements of several key individuals, including one Farrukh Ali. Ms Virk was arrested on August 12 under provisions of the PMLA and produced before a court, which sent her to ED custody until Friday.
ED officials said the potential involvement of other individuals is also being investigated.

The incident, captured on CCTV, occurred on Sunday morning while the family was asleep. Notably, the home's alarm system failed to alert Justice Garg's son, Ritvik, allowing the thieves to escape undetected. According to reports, the thieves had cut through an iron window grill to gain entry, all while a security guard was present outside. Meanwhile, Ritvik's wife and children slept undisturbed in another room, oblivious to the theft unfolding nearby.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Indore's affluent Vijay Nagar neighbourhood, raising concerns about security in an area known for its prominent residents. The targeting of a retired justice's home has added urgency to the police's efforts, with pressure mounting to apprehend the culprits.
Vijay Nagar police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the culprits.

Gambhir Sent Honest "Hardik Pandya Reminder" After 2-2 End To England Tests
Former New Zealand all-rounder Craig McMillan recently stated that the absence of a proper fast-bowling all-rounder in the Test team is causing a problem for India. He named that an all-rounder with the calibre of Hardik Pandya is what India need in Test cricket at the moment. Hardik is a big name and an integral part of India's white-ball setup. With his performances, he has guided India to victory numerous times. However, due to his fitness issues, he could not replicate his heroics in the longest format.
Making his Test debut in 2017, Hardik's last appearance in the longest format came in 2018. McMillan stated that in away conditions, it is important for a team to have a fast-bowling all-rounder.
"In Asian conditions, you need a spin-bowling allrounder like Jadeja, Washington or previously R Ashwin. In NZ, Australia and England, you need a fast-bowling allrounder. It is where India are missing a player like Hardik Pandya who can bowl medium pace and bat lower down the order," McMillan told Times of India.
The Kiwi great further spoke about Shubman Gill's captaincy in his first Test tour as a skipper against England.
"He looks a good captain. The first series is very tough. In such a pressure-cooked series, he probably made a few mistakes. But you expect those in his first series. He will get better with experience. He is the future, so India will invest in him. He will get to know his team's game, which I think is really important, and the style of play," said McMillan.
"When India had played under Virat Kohli, everyone knew how they had played - they had been aggressive. It might be a bit different because of the personality of Gill. He has got to work that out with the coach Gautam Gambhir," he added.

Passenger Occupies Man's Confirmed Seat In Sleeper Coach, Railways Responds
In recent days, several railway passengers have been taking to social media to show the dire condition of trains, which have been marred by overcrowding and ticketless passengers occupying seats. Now, an X user expressed frustration about his experience on the Gwalior-Barauni Express train. The user shared a video showing the overcrowded sleeper coach and complained that his reserved seat was occupied by another passenger. Despite requesting the Ticket Checker, no action was taken to resolve the situation, and his seat remained occupied by another passenger.
He wrote, "My seat is occupied by another passenger. I requested the TTE, Sir, to get my seat vacated, but it still hasn't been cleared."
