Dawood Ibrahim Aide Emerges As Drug Syndicate 'Kingpin', Arrested In Goa
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested Danish Chikna, a close aide of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and "kingpin" of a drug syndicate, from Goa, officials said on Wednesday.
Danish Chikna alias Danish Merchant, who had been on the run, looked after operations of the drug network linked to Dawood's gang in the country, an official said.
The NCB has arrested Danish and three other persons and seized 1.341 kg of mephedrone from their possession, he said.
Based on intelligence inputs, the NCB Mumbai on September 18 intercepted a person in Pune, from whom 502 gm of mephedrone was seized.
In the immediate follow-up, 839 gm of the contraband was seized from another drug associate at the home of Danish and his wife in Mumbai, the official said.
During the probe, Danish, the "kingpin", and his wife were identified to be operating the drug syndicate. They had been on the run and travelled across multiple states to dodge the movement trail, he said.
After intensive follow-up action, they were located at a holiday resort in Goa.
The NCB team apprehended them from the resort in Goa on October 25. After interrogation, both were placed under arrest, the NCB said in a statement.
Danish is a habitual drug offender. The NCB and Rajasthan police had previously registered three cases against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, according to the official.
The Mumbai police have also registered seven criminal cases against him. The police had externed him, ordering him to stay out of the Mumbai municipal limits, the statement said.

Video: Woman Repeatedly Slaps Security Guard In Greater Noida Complex
A video is being widely shared in which a woman can be seen repeatedly slapping the security guard of a housing complex in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida.
In the CCTV footage, the woman can be seen grabbing the security guard by the collar in the building and repeatedly slapping him. She then drags him outside the building and continues to slap him.
The guard, Rajkumar Yadav, said that he has been on duty at Tower 7 of the Presithum Society in Greater Noida's Sector 25 for the past month. He was on duty as usual on Saturday evening when a resident of the complex, Anju Sharma, arrived and started assaulting him without any provocation, he alleged.
He said that a few people tried to rescue him, but the woman misbehaved with them as well.
Yadav, who is from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh and works for a security agency, then reached the Dankaur police station along with some other residents of the complex and filed a complaint against the woman.
Police station in-charge Munendra Singh said that a case has been registered based on the security guard's complaint and an investigation is on.

"Injustice": DLS Method Torn To Shreds After Revised Target Drama In 1st ODI
The Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, the formula used in rain-affected cricket matches, has come under intense criticism following the first ODI between India and Australia at Perth. After being put into bat, India's innings suffered four separate stoppages due to rain, and was eventually cut down to 26 overs. However, despite India scoring 136 in their 26 overs, Australia were set a lower target of 131 after DLS method calculations. Former India opener and reputed commentator Aakash Chopra has made his feelings clear on the situation.
"India had made 136 but the target was down to 130? But this is wrong. It's an injustice. Let me explain why," said Chopra, speaking on his YouTube channel.
"Firstly, when the match began, it was a 50-over game for India. But progressively, the overs began reducing, making it difficult for India to adapt to.
"What happens in DLS is, if you have less wickets, you are put in a weaker position. India had lost nine. It's a way of saying, 'You have made 136 runs extra and you wouldn't have made even this much if it was initially a 26-over game'. This is wrong," Chopra stated.
Chopra pointed out that Australia were aware of the conditions and overs of the match during their innings, while India weren't. Therefore, Chopra stated that India shouldn't have had to defend a lower score.
"If we look at Australia, Josh Hazlewood bowled seven overs, Mitchell Starc bowled six. When it was India's turn to bowl, only one bowler could bowl six overs. For Australia, two bowlers bowled six and one bowled seven. Australia also know how many overs each Indian bowler will bowl. So, the team chasing is at an advantage. Australia comes to bat and they know the total and overs well," Chopra explained.
Chopra suggested that the DLS method should reward teams batting first.
"They should have rewarded India. If India made 136, the target should have been around 145 or 147, something like that. DLS is going against teams batting second. I suggest something needs to change with the DLS method because the system is against the team batting first," Chopra added.
India posted a total of 136/9 in a stop-start 26-over innings, after which Australia were given a revised target of 131 via the DLS method.
Australia chased down the target with 4.5 overs to spare, thereby taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Mohammad Rizwan Sacked As Pakistan ODI Captain, Replacement Named
Another round of musical chairs in Pakistan's cricketing leadership completed on Monday as the cricket board announced the sacking of Mohammad Rizwan as the team's ODI captain. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new skipper in the format, replacing the wicket-keeper batter Rizwan who had only took up the leadership role in the 50-over format last October. Surprisingly, Shaheen will now be leading the team for next month's three-match ODI series against South Africa, marking a third change in the format's captaincy in the past 12 months.
The 25-year-old replaced Mohammad Rizwan who took over as ODI skipper last October following Babar Azam's resignation. Under Rizwan's leadership, Pakistan didn't perform well in the Champions Trophy this year, finishing bottom in Group A, behind India, New Zealand and Bangladesh.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said Shaheen's appointment came after a meeting in Islamabad.
"A meeting of the selection committee, also attended by Pakistan's white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, decided that Shaheen will lead Pakistan's ODI side against South Africa," said a PCB release.
OFFICIAL: SHAHEEN SHAH AFRIDI - THE NEW ODI CAPTAIN OF PAKISTAN pic.twitter.com/kjW09fCQ4k
— Sheri. (@CallMeSheri1_) October 20, 2025
The three-match ODI series will be played on November 4, 6 and 8 - all in Faisalabad.
Rizwan started off well as ODI skipper with a 2-1 series win, Pakistan's first in Australia in 22 years, in November 2024. Pakistan then handed South Africa their first 3-0 home whitewash and won 2-1 in Zimbabwe.
But this year Pakistan lost the home tri-series final to New Zealand before crashing out of the Champions Trophy in the first round in February. But Rizwan's worst came in the West Indies where Pakistan lost 2-1 - their first series loss in the Caribbean for 34 years.
Shaheen previously led Pakistan in five Twenty20 internationals in New Zealand in January last year but was relieved of the role after a 4-1 defeat.

"Baffled": Gill Questioned Over India Pacer's Role Against Aus In 1st ODI
Shubman Gill endured a difficult first experience as captain of India in ODIs, losing his first game against Australia on Sunday. India were comprehensively outclassed by Australia in a rain-affected match, as the hosts chased down a target of 131 with 4.5 overs to spare in a 26-over contest. Following the match, Gill's tactics have come under fire from experts. Former India opener and reputed commentator Aakash Chopra has questioned Gill's bowling changes, and, in particular, Gill's usage of left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh.
Upon taking the new ball, Arshdeep had impressed in his opening spell, picking up the wicket of maverick Australian opener Travis Head with just his second delivery.
However, Arshdeep was taken off the attack after just two overs instead of being given a more prolonged go at the Australian batting. Arshdeep was reintroduced again in the 17th over, by which point the match had firmly slipped out of India's hands.
"Arshdeep Singh bowled only two of the first 16 overs. He claimed a wicket in one of them. I could not understand the thinking. The total wasn't big enough to hold him back," Chopra said, speaking on his YouTube channel.
"He was bowling well and one bowler could bowl six overs. I thought Arshdeep would be that bowler because he had claimed a wicket. I am trying to wrap my head around the fact that he bowled only two of the first 16 overs," Chopra added.
The other pacers in the Indian bowling lineup - Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy - failed to pick up a single wicket between themselves.
Australia captain Mitchell Marsh stayed unbeaten from start to finish, guiding his team home with a knock of 48.
Wicket-keeper batter Josh Philippe played a fiery innings of 37 off just 29 balls, helping Australia cruise home.

Senior Asks Employee To Work After Shift, Demands Mail On Refusal, Post Viral
Having boundaries in a professional setting is essential to maintaining a proper work-life balance, but every once in a while, the higher-ups end up crossing that line. A similar incident happened with a Redditor who shared a screenshot of their conversation with a senior who asked them to work after the shift.
In a now-viral Reddit post titled, "Senior asked me to work after hours. What do I do now?" the user sought advice from the internet after giving a stern reply to the senior.
"Okay, so a senior of mine in my team asked me to work after shift hours on something. Honestly, my shift timings are from 12 PM - 9 PM IST, and I can work for some days when there's a requirement. But I don't want to make it a habit or routine & give the idea that they can take advantage of my after-hours time," the user wrote in the r/IndianWorkplace subreddit.
In the text screenshot, the user told the boss that they are available to work in emergencies but won't commit beyond working hours.
“Sorry, I am happy to work as much as needed and for as long as required within my shift hours. However, I have some personal commitments after that, so I'll need to prioritise those once my shift ends. I can be available if there is an emergency, but I won't be able to commit to working beyond my shift hours. Thank you for understanding.”
The senior's response was brief: “Can you send the same in the email to me?”, which made the employee uneasy. They wondered whether it was an attempt to label them as “not flexible” or escalate the matter to HR.

Posts from the indianworkplace
community on Reddit
'Tell him to...'
As the post gained traction, social media users advised the individual to enclose the screenshot in the mail to keep all bases covered.
"Tell him to drop a mail asking for overtime work," said one user, while another added: "All the replies have great suggestions. Also, stop responding to messages once your shift ends, then you won't be accountable for a reply. Come back the next day and just say you were occupied with personal work."
A third commented: "If you're sending this in email, do include a screenshot of the WhatsApp text as well. Your senior's texts should be visible where he's asking you to work after your shift hours."
A fourth said: "The first rule of surviving Indian work culture is never saying no. But that doesn't mean saying yes as well. Whenever this happens, try not to acknowledge the text. If someone calls you after work hours, do not respond. Once in a while, do respond and get things done. This keeps you on good terms."
Last week, another viral post showed a manager refusing to grant leave to an employee who shared a screenshot of the WhatsApp texts. Despite the employee repeatedly stating that they had a headache, the manager refused to budge, asking the former to come to the office after taking medicine.

Indian Student With $100,000 Columbia Scholarship Denied US Visa. Here's Why
Kaushik Raj, a 27-year-old journalist from Delhi, was all ready to live his American dream with a $100,000 (approximately Rs 89 lakh) scholarship in hand to pursue a master's degree in data journalism at Columbia University. But all his plans came crashing down when the United States' immigration department denied his student visa.
Raj, who completed all the visa formalities, including the interview, believes the rejection was linked to his social media activity. Under the Donald Trump administration, social media vetting has become an integral part of the visa selection process.
Speaking to The Washington Post, Raj claimed he wasn't very active on social media and "refrained from publicising his personal feelings about hot-button global issues, such as Israel's war in Gaza."
However, he said that in four years of his journalistic career, he often focused on hate crimes, which was reflected in his social media activities.
Raj's semester at Columbia University was set to start in August, but around that time, he received a letter from the US Embassy in New Delhi telling him his application had been rejected.
The letter said that Raj, who was born and raised in India, had not demonstrated sufficient ties to the country that would “compel” him to return home after his time in the United States. The letter made no mention of his online activity.
But, according to Raj, "It was clearly because they had gone through my social media."
"I will apply to the UK now," he told the American publication.
Raj's story is not unique. Three other Indian students interviewed by The Washington Post shared similar experiences. All claimed that they had completed every other stage of the application process, only to be rejected after the social media vetting process. All these students were told that US authorities failed to prove they have strong enough ties to India despite having spent their whole lives there.
Social Media Vetting
In a move apparently aimed at strengthening visa screening procedures, the United States in June announced that all individuals applying for an F, M, or J non-immigrant visa were required to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media accounts to 'public' to facilitate vetting necessary to establish their identity and admissibility to the United States under US law.
F or M category is for student visas and J category for exchange visitor visa.
Washington maintains that the social media vetting was critical for America's national security. According to White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly, the screening process helps identify applicants who might pose threats or attempt to undermine US foreign policy interests.
Drop In Visas Issued To Indians
The United States issued nearly one-fifth fewer student visas in August following a crackdown by President Donald Trump, led by a steep drop for India which was overtaken by China as top country of origin, data showed Monday.
The United States issued 313,138 student visas in August, the most common start month for US universities, a drop of 19.1 per cent from the same month in 2024, according to the International Trade Commission.
India, which last year was the top source of foreign students to the United States, saw the most dramatic drop with 44.5 per cent fewer student visas issued than a year earlier.

Cough Syrup, Then More Sickness And Death: Shell-Shocked Families Try To Cope
For the families of the children who died in Chhindwara, compensation means little. What is Rs 4 lakh when your child is gone? What is government aid when you've already sold your home, your jewellery, and your dreams to keep a heartbeat going?
After days of denial, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced Rs 4 lakh compensation for each of the 11 children who died after consuming Coldrif Cough Syrup.
The government will also bear the full cost of treatment for those still fighting for their lives in hospitals.
But for the parents in Parasia, the wounds are beyond repair. Many have lost not just their children but everything they owned trying to save them.
He Sold His Auto to Save His Child
Yasin Khan, a 30-year-old auto driver from Parasia, has not slept for several nights. His three-year-old son, Usaid, was his world. On August 31, Usaid developed a mild fever and cough. The family took him to Dr. Aman Siddiqui, he prescribed Coldrif Syrup.
"After the first few doses, my son started vomiting," Yasin recalled. "His eyes swelled up, his urine stopped, and he began crying in pain. We rushed him to Chhindwara, then to Nagpur. Doctors there said his kidneys were failing."
Usaid was put on dialysis. His father sold his only means of livelihood -- his auto-rickshaw -- to pay the hospital bills. The family spent over Rs 4 lakh in a desperate attempt to save him. "I thought if I could save him, I could buy another auto some day," Yasin said softly. "But now there's no child, no work, and no hope".
As if the cruelty of fate wasn't enough, while Usaid was being treated in Nagpur, their home's roof collapsed in the rain. Neighbours covered it with plastic sheets. When the couple returned with their son's body, water was seeping into every corner of the house.
"We came home with his body," his mother said, her voice breaking. "Everything was gone the roof, the money, and our son."
He Mortgaged His Land, and Still Lost His Child
Prakash Yaduvanshi sits in a dimly lit two-room house in Parasia, staring at a framed photograph of his son Devansh, aged seven.
He spent Rs 7 lakh on Devansh's treatment -- money he didn't have. He mortgaged his small farm, pawned his wife's jewellery, and borrowed from everyone he knew.
"I'm a paralytic patient," he said, holding up his trembling right hand. "My wife has two operations pending. We were already struggling. When my son fell sick, I thought it was just a cold. But the doctor gave him the syrup, and his condition got worse and worse," he said.
For 15 days, Devansh could neither eat nor drink. His body began to swell, his kidneys failed, and dialysis became his only chance.
The mother remembered every moment.
"The first dialysis lasted one-and-a-half hours. The next day, three hours. Then five. But he was slipping away from us. On the last day, the doctor said we have done all we could," she said.
The family has nothing left now. Prakash said they will go to the High Court.
For Kabir, The Diagnosis Came Too Late
In Betul district's Amla block, 4-year-old Kabir died on September 8. His father Kamlesh, a small farmer from Kalmeshwar, had taken him to Dr Praveen Soni in Parasia after the child developed a mild cough.
Dr Soni prescribed Coldrif Syrup. When Kabir's condition worsened, Kamlesh returned to the doctor, who referred him elsewhere. By the time another hospital diagnosed kidney failure, it was too late.
Kabir was taken to Nagpur, then to Bhopal. He died during treatment.
"I mortgaged my land for Rs 2.5 lakh," Kamlesh told NDTV. "I thought money could save him. But money ran out before his breath did," he added.
In Parasia's narrow lanes, grief hangs heavy. Fathers sit in silence, mothers clutch clothes that still smell of their children.
"We don't want money," said Usaid's mother, tears streaking her face. "We want justice for every child who took that poison thinking it was medicine," she added.

Amazon's Jeff Bezos Calls AI Boom 'Kind Of Industrial Bubble': 'This Is Real'
Amid the rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI) across the globe, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has claimed that there is an 'industrial bubble', but the technology is 'real' and will bring big benefits to society. He stressed that AI will “change every industry,” calling it a once-in-a-generation technological shift.
"This is kind of an industrial bubble as opposed to financial bubbles," said Bezos at the Italian Tech Week 2025 in Turin, Italy.
He further explained the difference between an industrial and banking bubble: "The banking bubble, the crisis in the banking system, that's just bad, that's like 2008. Those bubbles society wants to avoid. The ones that are industrial are not nearly as bad, they can even be good. Because when the dust settles and you see who are the winners society benefits from those inventions," he said.
"That's what is going to happen here too. This is real. The benefits to society from AI are going to be gigantic."
The term bubble describes a market phase where speculative buying drives up the value of assets, such as company stock, to levels that far exceed their worth. This unsustainable growth inevitably ends with the bubble bursting, as it happened during the dot-com crash in 2000, when inflated internet company valuations collapsed.

Job loss in future
While Bezos takes an optimistic view of the technology, others have warned about the perils of the technology. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has warned that AI could soon wipe out 50 per cent of entry-level white-collar jobs within the next five years.
He said governments across the world were downplaying the threat when AI's rising use could lead to a significant spike in unemployment numbers.
"We, as the producers of this technology, have a duty and an obligation to be honest about what is coming. I don't think this is on people's radar," said Mr Amodei.
"Most of them are unaware that this is about to happen. It sounds crazy, and people just don't believe it," he added.
Similarly, Mo Gawdat, who left Google as its chief business officer in 2018, warned that the 'hell' will begin as early as 2027 as AI eliminates white-collar jobs, with no one spared, including software developers, CEOs, and podcasters.

Employee Exposes 'Toxic Reality' Of Government Banking Job: 'Sold A Lie'
A government bank employee has revealed the 'toxic' reality of the job, stating people had been 'sold a lie' about the security and prestige that came with employment at PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings). In a now-viral Reddit post, the employee stated that they had secured the bank job nine months ago after studying hard for it, but the story after starting the job was completely different.
"I've been working at a public sector bank for 9 months now, and honestly? I feel like we've all been sold a lie," the employee wrote in the r/IndianWorkplace subreddit, adding: "I studied so hard for it, and when I got in, my family was so proud. There is no respect, neither from customer nor from management. For management we are slaves."
The employee said they were given 'insane' targets and told to sell insurance, credit cards and loans while the work pressure was non-stop.
"I'm a banker, not a street vendor. The pressure is non-stop. Telling a rural branch to do FD of 1cr everyday is just stupidity. And the work culture? Super toxic. The seniors act like bosses from a 90s movie."
Terming the job a 'trap', the employee said their branch was severely understaffed, meaning three employees had to do the work of six people.
"The line of customers never ends, the phone is always ringing. You can't even go to the bathroom without someone getting mad. The worst part? You don't have a life. They act like your time means nothing."
The employee advised others preparing for bank jobs to understand that the reality was quite different from what they were used to from the outside.

'You can find another job'
As the post went viral, social media users advised the individual to quit their job and look for alternatives.
"Quit, do what you think is right and thank me later. I and many others quit SBI and banks of its ilk. I have never regretted my decision," said one user, while another added: "I know a person who died on a Public Sector Bank job because of Typhoid. Don't be that person."
A third commented: "Leave. Nothing is worth your peace. You can find another job. You can't find another life."
A fourth said: "My dad used to work in a government bank. He didn't have sales pressure, I guess, but everything else you mentioned was true.. He used to come home late most of the time . Especially during the financial year-end "closing". I lost all love for govt jobs then. Banking is not an easy life."
Last month, a 39-year-old government bank employee posted a similar rant, stating that the toll of relentless pressure for 15 years had pushed them to the brink.

Madhya Pradesh Man Bleeds Outside Police Station While Cops Get Car Washed
Daboh police station in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district has once again brought the police under sharp criticism, with an incident that residents described as the height of negligence and insensitivity.
In what many are calling a glaring example of "MP ajab hai, sabse gajab hai," a grievously injured man was left unattended outside a police station while officers allegedly prioritised getting their car washed.
The incident happened on Tuesday in Barthara village under Daboh police station limits. According to reports, a long-standing property dispute turned violent when Narayan Parihar and Komal Parihar attacked their relative, Shyamu Parihar, with an axe and sticks while he was constructing a wall.
Bleeding heavily, Shyamu Parihar was rescued by his brother Ramu, who rushed him to the police station seeking urgent help and protection. But instead of immediate medical attention or prompt filing of a case, what followed shocked bystanders.
Witnesses alleged that police personnel, including sub-inspector Ravindra Kumar Manjhi, were more concerned about getting their vehicle washed than attending to the victim.
Shyamu Parihar lay outside the police station writhing in pain, while a policeman kept himself busy with getting a car washed.
Even after an hour's delay, the first information report (FIR) was reportedly registered only after repeated pleas from the complainant's family. More disturbingly, locals alleged the police demanded money in exchange for filing the complaint, and when it was not paid, the tables were turned - the victim was made the accused in the case.
The victim's family, outraged by the delay and alleged extortion, say the lack of timely action endangered Shyamu Parihar's life.
"Instead of saving my brother, they were bargaining with us," said Ramu Parihar, adding they have appealed directly to Superintendent of Police Asit Yadav for justice.
Acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations, inspector Rakesh Sharma said the behavior of the sub inspector was unacceptable and should not have occurred. However, no immediate action has yet been confirmed against the officers involved.
The episode has sparked widespread anger in the region, with locals demanding a fair probe and strict disciplinary measures. Many residents described the incident as not just negligence but an outright abuse of power, emblematic of why public trust in the police remained shaky.
