Union Minister's "Vulture Tourism" Jibe On Rahul Gandhi's Manipur Visit

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Friday took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Manipur visit to Manipur and said that he engages in what he called "vulture tourism".

Mr Chandrasekhar accused Mr Gandhi of visiting places where people are suffering instead of actively addressing the long-standing issues in those societies

"I find that Rahul Gandhi always has this habit of making these visits almost look like a vulture tourist goes and travels places where suffering is going on. Instead of contributing to decades of tension in some societies that have been ignored by years under the previous government, he goes there for a little vulture tourism visit," Mr Chandrasekhar said.

He expressed his hope that Mr Gandhi finds satisfaction in his photo opportunities during his visit and returns to his usual activities during his holidays in foreign countries.

"I don't want to comment too much about it. I certainly think that all want peace to be restored. The state government does not like violence in Manipur and I hope that Rahul Gandhi is happy with his photo op today and goes back to doing what he does for his foreign holidays," he said.

Earlier on Friday, Mr Gandhi met with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan and said he would do whatever he can to restore peace in the state.

He reiterated that his party will extend full cooperation to bring peace and tranquility in the state so that the immemorial history of co-existence will maintain the status quo ante.

"Manipur needs peace. I want peace to be restored here. I visited some relief camps, and there are deficiencies in these relief camps, the government should work on this. I'm ready to do whatever I can for the peace of the state," he told reporters.

Manipur Police on Thursday said the situation is tense in some places with sporadic incidents of firing in the past 24 hours but it's normal in most districts.

Ethnic clashes broke out in the state on May 3 after clashes erupted during a rally organised by the All Tribal Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand for the inclusion of Meiteis in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs).

Suitcases Banned In This European City. Here's Why

The city of Dubrovnik is breathtaking, both for its natural beauty and for the fascinating colours and textures of its architecture. Its popularity as a travel destination in Europe is largely due to this.

The city of Dubrovnik draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, making Croatia one of the most gorgeous countries in all of Europe.

However, a new policy that has been introduced to this beautiful city has surprised tourists all over the world who want to make a visit to this city.

According to The New York Post, Dubrovnik residents have complained about noise pollution when tourists drag their suitcases around the city's famed stone-paved and cobbled streets, claiming that the act keeps them up at night.

And because of this, Mayor Mato Frankovic has introduced new rules that will ban tourists from dragging wheeled suitcases around the winding roads in Dubrovnik's Old Town. Visitors who do choose to carry their bags face a hefty fine of $288 (Rs 23630).

The action is a part of the Dubrovnik Tourist Office's "Respect the City" initiative.

The new portal further mentions that the ban is part of a bigger plan to stop tourists from carrying suitcases in Dubrovnik. According to local reports, starting in November, the local government intends to set up a system where travellers deposit bags outside the city.

According to The Dubrovnik Times, Dubrovnik has continued to be a very popular tourist destination, with 289,000 visitors and 763,500 overnight stays since the year's commencement.

In addition to having streets made of stone, the city's Old Town is renowned for its old walls that surround it, its sunny climate, and for being the location of King's Landing in the hit television series Game of Thrones.

Second Only To Don Bradman: Steve Smith Scripts History With Ashes Ton

Australian batter Steve Smith has now become the player with the second-highest number of centuries for his country. He accomplished this feat in his side's Ashes second Test against England at Lord's. Smith continued with his rich run of form in English territory, scoring his 32nd Test hundred. The former Australia skipper produced a delightful 110 runs off 184 balls, studded with 15 boundaries.

Ponting holds the record for the most Test centuries for Australia, with 41 tons. Steve Waugh also has 32 tons like Smith. Notably, Smith is the fastest player to get to the 32-century mark, doing so in the 174th innings of his 99th Test, as per cricket.com.au. This was Smith's eighth Test hundred in England, the second-most by any foreign player in the country, behind only Sir Donald Bradman's eleven tons. Also, now Smith has 12 tons in the Ashes. Only Bradman, with 19 tons, has more triple figure mark in the Ashes, according to a ESPN Cricinfo report.

Smith has also become the fourth Australian player to etch his name on the honour's board at the Home of Cricket, Lord's. He joined an elite company featuring the likes of Warren Bardsley (1912, 1926), Sir Don Bradman (1930, 1938) and Bill Brown (1934, 1938) to score multiple Test hundreds at Lord's.

Smith now has 12 Ashes hundreds and now he is only second to the legendary Don Bradman, who has scored 19 centuries in the series.

Smith has a lot of history at the Lord's, a ground where he made his Test debut back in 2010. He smashed a mammoth 215 at the venue during the 2015 Ashes. It was here that England pacer Jofra Archer concussed him in 2019, which is one of the most brutal moments of this rivalry's history.

It further adds to Smith's unique history at Lord's, a ground where he made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2010, where he blazed a mammoth 215 during the 2015 Ashes and where Jofra Archer concussed him in 2019 in one of the Ashes' most brutally memorable moments.

After a rare double failure at Birmingham, perhaps Smith gave England a hope that they could avoid the carnage he unleashed back in the 2019 Ashes, in which he smashed 774 runs in four Test matches. But his attacking, but yet careful strokeplay helped him get another hundred.

In his knock, he also surpassed the total of 9,000 Test runs, with only Kumar Sangakkara being faster to reach the milestone in 172 innings.

Coming to the match, England's first innings is in progress.

In their first innings, Australia was bundled out for 416 runs. Smith (110), Travis Head (77 in 73 balls) and David Warner (66 in 88 balls) played standout innings for Australia.

Josh Tongue (3/98) and Ollie Robinson (3/100) took three-fers. Joe Root took two wickets while the veteran pace duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad managed a wicket each.

Watch: Khawaja Bamboozled By Tongue At Lord's. His Reaction Goes Viral

Australia's David Warner made England pay for dropping him in helpful conditions with a quickfire fifty before the hosts removed Usman Khawaja after protesters briefly disrupted the second Ashes Test at Lord's on Wednesday. It looked like Australia would get through the first day's opening session without losing a wicket when, to what became the last ball before lunch, Josh Tongue bowled Khawaja, playing no shot, for 17 with a delivery that cut back in. Fellow left-handed opener Warner was 53 not out in Australia's total of 73-1. That still represented a good morning's work for Australia, 1-0 up in the five-match series after a thrilling two-wicket win in last week's first Test at Edgbaston.

Australia were sent into bat by England captain Ben Stokes on a green-tinged Lord's pitch and under overcast skies that aided the hosts' four-strong frontline pace attack.

The match was briefly halted before the second over when two Just Stop Oil protesters ran out of the Grandstand and onto the outfield, sprinkling the environmental pressure group's trademark orange powder on the square but not on the pitch.

England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow grabbed one of the demonstrators and carried them off the playing surface, with the other apprehended by stewards.

A third demonstrator was tackled before making it onto the outfield, with Metropolitan Police later saying they had arrested three people.

For all that England's aggressive 'Bazball' approach had come under scrutiny in Birmingham, the fact they missed several chances was a bigger factor in their defeat.

Another catch went down in the fifth over at Lord's with Khawaja reprieved when first slip Joe Root could not hold a tough, low chance off James Anderson.

Rain then stopped play longer than the demonstrators had done during a 15-minute break.

And there was more frustration for England when Stuart Broad, who has long troubled Warner in Ashes contests, had the opener edging a drive on 20, only for fourth slip Pope to drop a two-handed catch to his left.

Both batsmen played and missed, unsurprisingly given the bowler-friendly conditions, with Warner also chancing his arm when hitting across the line.

But he completed a 66-ball fifty when he pulled fast bowler Tongue, in just his second Test after being recalled in place of injured off-spinner Moeen Ali, for six.

Titanic Sub Debris Brought Ashore in Canada

A Canadian-flagged ship on Wednesday brought ashore debris from the Titan submersible that imploded while on a voyage to the century-old wreck of the Titanic earlier this month, killing all five people on board.

Shattered fragments wrapped in white tarp pulled up by a crane off the Horizon Arctic vessel.

Video from the Canadian Broadcast Corporation showed what appeared to be the nose of the submersible and other shattered fragments wrapped in white tarp pulled up by a crane off the Horizon Arctic vessel at the St. John's harbor in Newfoundland on Wednesday morning.

The debris is expected to shed more light on the cause of the catastrophic implosion that killed everyone on board - OceanGate Expeditions CEO Stockton Rush; British billionaire Hamish Harding; Pakistani-born businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son, Suleman; and French oceanographer Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

It was not immediately clear where the debris was headed.

Canadian and US authorities have in the past week announced investigations into the incident, which has raised questions about the unregulated nature of such expeditions.

The deep-sea submersible operated by OceanGate Expeditions was discovered in pieces on the seabed some 1,600 feet (488 meters) from the bow of the Titanic by a robotic diving vehicle last week, ending a multinational five-day search for survivors.

"Our team has successfully completed off-shore operations, but is still on mission and will be in the process of demobilization from the Horizon Arctic this morning," Pelagic Research, which operates the robotic vehicle, said in a statement. It declined to comment further, citing confidentiality reasons.

Footage also showed a shattered part of the hull and machinery with dangling wires being taken off the ship at St. John's, where the expedition to the Titanic had set off from.

Want To Stay At Barbie's Malibu Dreamhouse? Now Is Your Chance

One's motivation to travel can range from a need for rest and relaxation, the urge to discover and engage with a new place and culture, or simply to get away from the madding crowd. But theme vacations or 'themecations' are a long-standing travel trend, from a Disneycation to a Jane Austen Retreat and a Beatles pilgrimage tour, there are plenty out there to pick from. Riding on this trend is a well-known online marketplace for short-and long-term homestays that has a new kind of themed holiday retreat up for grabs. Ahead of the movie, Barbie's release this homestay digital portal is offering a staycation at, you guessed it, Barbie's Malibu Dreamhouse. Barbie fans and lovers now get a chance to take a real-life peek at where their favourite doll resides in real and reel life. The all-pink mansion will be hosted by none other than 'Ken' who is played by Ryan Gosling in the upcoming movie. The house is fashioned like the playset from the movie.

This isn't the first time that the uber-pink life-size doll house is available for tourists and Barbie enthusiasts to visit. The post is captioned, 'The Barbie Malibu DreamHouse is back...-but this time, Ken's hosting. While everyone's favourite doll makes her live live-action debut in BARBIE, Ken transformed the pink palace with maximum Kenergy-cowboy hats, rollerblades, you name it. Everyone in Barbie Land can request to book these stays on July 17 at 10 am PT at the link in our bio."

The listing continues, 'Situated along the stunning, photogenic coastline, the Malibu DreamHouse is a sunny surfer's sanctuary surrounded by beach, beach and more beach. Once you arrive and check-in, our concierge will ensure a comfortable stay for you and your guest - including showing you around and setting out and arranging meals.' The homestay service concludes the listing by highlighting that the 'one-night stays are not a contest.' The guest is responsible for travel to and from Malibu and the home is privately owned and operated.

The other interesting facts about the stay are that it includes taking a spin through Ken's wardrobe to find your best beach fit, learning a dance or two on the outdoor disco dance floor or performing a sunset serenade on the guitar, plenty of sunbathing and chillaxing by the infinity pool and taking home a piece of Kendom with a set of yellow-and-pink Impala skates and a surfboard. That's a travel package that could entice even those ascribe to the Barbie school of fun.

If what you've seen isn't enough, here's an aerial view of the house.

Twitter was set ablaze as the news about the mansion being open to the public broke. While a few users were extremely excited about the news, one question that was often raised, was why the stay was meant for only two people when it is actually a Barbie mansion.

"Why can only two people stay at a time? It's a whole mansion. I wanna go w my girls" commented one user.

Another retweeted with, 'Looks like it could accommodate 20+. Must be an insurance, no party thing. Though I don't see many if any, couples who have a Ken/Barbie fantasy. But I could be wrong.'

While yet another user tweeted, 'I promise I won't have a party... I just wanna have a sleepover w my girl friends'

While this could well be a great marketing strategy for the movie that is set to release mid-next month, we have no doubt that there will be more than a few themecation enthusiasts that will venture over to the Malibu Dreamhouse not just for the love of Barbie.

Meanwhile, Lust Stories 2 actors Tamannaah and Vijay Varma are hogging all the limelight with their pairing in the anthology. Recently, Tamannaah Bhatia, in her interview with Film Companion, revealed that she has broken her 18-year-old no-kiss policy for her segment in Lust Stories 2. “I really wanted to work with Sujoy and I'm really happy that he thought of me for this part especially because I have done literally no intimacy in my career or very little intimacy in my career. I was that audience that would get awkward and I was that audience that ‘main ye kabhi nahi karungi', ‘main kabhi nahi kiss karungi on-screen.'"

She added, "I was that person so for me it has been an evolution to kind of get out of that framework, which served a certain audience because India is huge and there are so many parts of India that still needs to evolve. There is a lot of evolution that has happened already, thanks to even internet and social media, everyone has information at their fingertips but I do feel like — because everyone's consuming so much content — I felt like as an actor, I don't want this to be something that is holding me back...This was purely a creative endeavour. Now, after 18 years, I am not trying to be famous. That is not my driving force."

On Wednesday, the makers dropped the trailer of the second instalment of Lust Stories. As anticipated, Vijay and Tamannaah's chemistry was off the charts and kept the fans hooked throughout the trailer. Take a look at the trailer here:

Supertech Promotor RK Arora Arrested In Money Laundering Case

RK Arora, the promoter of real estate group Supertech, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money laundering case, sources said. He is likely to be produced before a special court on Wednesday, and the central agency will seek his custody.

RK Arora was arrested under the PMLA (Prevention of money laundering) Act after three rounds of questioning.

There are more than 20 FIRs (First Information Reports) against him in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana based on complaints filed by buyers.

The buyers had alleged that the company and its directors indulged in "criminal conspiracy" to cheat people by collecting funds from prospective buyers as an advance against booked flats in their real estate projects. But they failed to adhere to it and give possession of the flats on time, the central agency had said.

The FIRs alleged that the company had "defrauded" the general public, the ED had said.

Investigation revealed that Supertech Ltd and group companies collected money from homebuyers and took project-specific term loans from banks/financial institutions for projects/flats. But the funds were diverted to purchase land in the name of other group companies, which were again pledged as collaterals to borrow funds, the ED alleged.

The Supertech group had also "defaulted" on its payments to the banks and financial institutions and currently, around Rs 1,500 crore of such loans have become non-performing asset, the agency had said.

In April, assets worth more than Rs 40 crore of Supertech and its directors were attached under the anti-money laundering law, the Enforcement Directorate had said.

Wagner Mutiny Exposes Risks For China's Deep Russian Ties

As news broke on Saturday that mercenary Wagner troops were careering towards Moscow in a short-lived rebellion, several businessmen from southern China began frantically calling factories to halt shipments of goods destined for Russia.

While the mutiny - the biggest test of Russian President Vladimir Putin's leadership since his February 2022 invasion of Ukraine - quickly faded, some of these exporters are now left questioning their future dependence on Beijing's closest ally.

"We thought there was going to be a big problem," Shen Muhui, the head of the trade body for the firms in China's southern Fujian province said, recalling the scramble among its members exporting auto parts, machinery and garments to Russia.

Though the crisis has eased, "some people remain on the sidelines, as they're not sure what will happen later," he added, declining to name the companies pausing shipments.

China has sought to play down the weekend's events and voiced support for Moscow, with which it struck a "no limits" partnership shortly before Russia invaded Ukraine in what Moscow calls a "special military operation".

But a top US official on Monday said the weekend uprising had unsettled Beijing's cloistered leadership, and some analysts inside and outside China have started to question whether Beijing needs to ease off its political and economic ties to Moscow.

"It has put a fly in the ointment of that 'no-limits' relationship," said Singapore-based security analyst Alexander Neill.

China's foreign ministry, which described the aborted mutiny as Russia's "internal affairs" and expressed support for Moscow's efforts to stabilise the situation, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

CALLS FOR CAUTION

Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner private army that has fought some of Russia's bloodiest battles in the Ukraine war, led the armed revolt after he alleged a huge number of his fighters had been killed in friendly fire.

But the mercenary leader abruptly called the uprising off on Saturday evening as his fighters approached Moscow while facing virtually no resistance during a dash of nearly 800 km (500 miles).

China did not comment as the crisis unfolded, but released a statement on Sunday when Foreign Minister Qin Gang hosted a surprise meeting with Russia's deputy foreign minister in Beijing.

At the heart of China and Russia's relations is a shared opposition to what they see as a world dominated by the United States and the expansion of the NATO military alliance that threatens their security.

After securing an unprecedented third term as president earlier this year, Chinese President Xi Jinping made his first overseas trip to Moscow to meet his "dear friend" Putin.

While nationalistic commentators in state-run Chinese tabloids cheered Putin's swift efforts to stamp out the rebellion, even some in China - where critical speech is tightly controlled - have started to question Beijing's bet on Russia.

China "will be more cautious with its words and actions about Russia", said Shanghai-based international relations expert Shen Dingli.

Some Chinese scholars have gone even further.

Yang Jun, a professor at Beijing's China University of Political Science and Law, wrote a commentary published on Saturday that called for China to directly support Ukraine to avoid being "dragged into a quagmire of war by Russia".

"With the development of the current situation and the trend of the war...(China) should further adjust its position on Russia and Ukraine, make its attitude clearer, and decisively stand on the side of the victors of history," he wrote in Chinese-language Singaporean newspaper Lianhe Zaobao.

It was unclear if Yang's article was written before the Wagner rebellion and he did not respond to requests for an interview from Reuters.

Other China-based academics, however, said Beijing would not change its stance on Russia as a result of the incident.

INVESTOR UNCERTAINTY

China is Russia's top trading partner, with Beijing exporting everything from automobiles to smartphones and receiving cheap Russian crude oil that faces sanctions in much of the rest of the world.

But even in the energy sector, which fuelled a 40% jump in trade between Russia and China in the first five months of this year, there are some signs of caution in China.

Top company executives at Chinese state energy companies have routinely said it was too early to comment or sidestepped questions on new investments in Russia.

"Should Russia lose the war or see changes in the domestic leadership, it will create huge uncertainties for Chinese investors," said Michal Meidan, head of China energy research at The Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.

He said the Chinese government also seemed to be exercising caution, pointing out that Beijing had not yet signed a deal for a major new gas pipeline connecting the countries despite a push from Moscow.

While China is vital to Russia's economy, China's trade with the likes of the United States, the European Union and Japan - among the fiercest critics of Moscow's war in Ukraine - dwarfs its dealings with Russia.

"Beijing now has more reasons to have more reservations and to become more transactional in its dealings with Putin's Russia," said Wen-Ti Sung, a political scientist at the Australian National University.

"There's no point making long-term investment in someone who may not credibly survive into the long-term."

Man Gets Entire Plane To Himself After Flight Delayed By 18 Hours

Traveller Phil Stringer was heading back to his home from Oklahoma City to Charlotte, North Carolina on Sunday, but unfortunately, his flight got delayed for 18 hours. By that point, other passengers had booked another flight or given up flying out that day, but Mr Stringer did not and was rewarded by being the only person on the flight when it finally took off.

Mr Stringer got a free pass into first class and a private party with the crew, reported New York Post.

Mr Stringer in an interview with Insider said that he felt awful for making the American Airlines crew show up just for him - but the flight attendants got a laugh out of the situation and soon turned it into a "private party" in the sky

Sharing his experience, Mr Stringer told the media outlet, "I went to the gate and nobody was there. I was like, 'Did you guys already board everyone?'" he said, adding that the flight attendant "was like, 'No, honey, you're the only passenger.'"

He also posted about his trip on TikTok. He wrote, "When you buy every single ticket on the plane so you don't have to deal with people."

In the video, the crew members are seen giggling and riffling with him as they performed the airplane safety routine for the audience of one.

They also ended their loud-speaker messages with, "And yeah, Phil, this message is just for you."

He said he tried to change his flight multiple times with no luck and spent 18 hours waiting in the airport because he needed to get home to return to his job as the COO of a real estate brokerage.

"I apologized like 400 times," Mr Stringer said for being the sole reason the staff was called in so late.

During the flight, he was served top-notch food and drink service.

"I believe that your attitude determines your destination," he said. "Yeah, it was a sucky day. No one wants to stay in the airport for 18 hours, but if you have a positive view, you can turn something into a lot of fun."

Mr Stringer told the media outlet that they spent the whole flight chatting, joking and laughing with one another.

Watch: India Coach Stimac Shown Red Card For Argument At SAFF Championship

The SAFF Championship clash between India and Kuwait in Bengaluru witnessed several ugly brawls with on Tuesday. India coach Igor Stimac was sent off following argument with the match officials and Kuwait players. That was not all as two players, one each from India and Kuwait, were also sent off due to ugly fouls. This was the second time in the 2023 edition of the SAFF Championship that Stimac was sent off from the ground. Earlier, he was shown a red card during a match against Pakistan. Tuesday's match against Kuwait ended in a 1-1 draw. Both teams are in the semi-finals but India finished second in the points table.

Stimar first received a yellow card for disrupting play. Then he was sent off for having a go at the match officials. Stimac engaged in an animated argument with match officials and was eventually flashed a red card in the 81st minute.

But the harsh moments did not end there as India's Rahim Ali and Kuwait's Al Qallaf were sent off. The melee ensued after Qallaf pushed down India's Sahal Abdul Samad in the 84th minute and Rahim, in turn, pushed the Kuwait player to the ground. After that there was not enough time for either side to force a result.

Sunil Chhetri worked his magic but India had to split points with Kuwait after an acrimonious 1-1 draw in their last group match in the SAFF Championship on Tuesday. Chhetri had put India on the road to victory with an injury-time strike in the first half but an own goal by Anwar Ali in the added time of the second half spoiled the home side's march. This was also the first goal India conceded in nine matches.

The result meant that India and Kuwait ended up on seven points but the latter topped Group A on better goal average.

India will play Lebanon in the semifinal while Kuwait will take on either Bangladesh or Maldives.

Already qualified for the semifinal, both India and Kuwait pressed forward from the whistle, giving some entertaining moments.

Watch: Navdeep Saini Rattles Off-Stump On "First Ball" For Worcestershire

Fresh from his recall to the Indian Test side, pacer Navdeep Saini struck gold on his first ball for Worcestershire in a County Championship Division Two match. Saini, who had signed a four-match deal with Worcestershire, cleaned up Derbyshire opener Harry Came with a nip backer after the batter paid the ultimate price for leaving the ball. The incident happened on the first ball of the second over of Derbyshire's first innings. "How about that for a first ball in Worcestershire colours!," Worcestershire captioned a video on Twitter.

At stumps, Derbyshire were 32/2 with Came and Luis Reece back in dugout. Saini and Dillon Pennington have taken a wicket each so far for Worcestershire.

Earlier, Worcestershire were bundled out for 237 after opting to bat. Captain Jake Libby (78) was their top scorer. Libby is now the third highest scorer in Division Two this summer with 614 runs at an average of 61.40.

Meanwhile, Anuj Dal (5/45) was the wrecker-in-chief for Derbyshire as he ran through the top order.

Due to his India call up, Saini won't be available to face Yorkshire (July 10-13), Leicestershire (July 19-22) and Gloucestershire (July 26-29). He had signed a four-match contract initially.

Libby said: "Honours just about even? I would say so. We will be a little disappointed with the bat. We would have liked to have squeezed a few more runs.

"It is quite a slow, turgid deck and was quite tough to score runs on it so our score is probably a bit more than what it looks like on the scoreboard.

"We bowled brilliantly this evening to get two wickets and the game is poised nicely.

Kerala Man Shuts Self In Vande Bharat Washroom Brought Out By Force

In a weird turn of events aboard the Vande Bharat Express on Sunday, a man boarded the train from the northern Kasaragod district of Kerala and then shut himself inside one of its washrooms refusing to come out from there, Railway officials said.

He was brought out only after the train reached Shornur railway station in Palakkad after breaking open the washroom door, officials said.

Dressed in a red striped t-shirt, the man looked scared when he was taken out of the washroom, according to visuals of the incident shown on TV channels.

The visuals later showed him being questioned by Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials on the station platform.

Railway officials said that initially the man claimed he was from Maharashtra and was speaking in Hindi, but later he said that he was from Kasaragod and therefore, his identity was yet to be ascertained.

The man did not have a ticket either, they added.

He also told the RPF that someone was after him and while trying to run away from them he got into the washroom and shut himself inside it, the officials said.

They also said that he deliberately did not come out of the washroom despite repeated directions of RPF and other officials when the train stopped at Kannur and Kozhikode stations.

Watch: Gujarat Street Vendor's 'Banana Pani Puri' Angers The Internet

Pani Puri is one of those street foods that we love relishing. The cold and spicy water with a crispy poori is soothing to have on a hot day. While we all love a classic pani puri filled with boiled potatoes and spicy water, have you come across a 'banana pani puri'? In a recent food experiment that is going viral on the internet, a street vendor from Gujarat created this offbeat combination.

A video shared by Twitter user Mohammed Futurewala showcases a street vendor serving his customers the 'banana pani puri.' The street vendor used bananas instead of using boiled potatoes.

The video shows the man peeling bananas into a bowl, he adds chickpeas, spices and coriander leaves to the mix. He then serves the pani puri to the customers.

The caption of the video reads, "Hurting the food sentiments of Pani Puri lovers on the TL. Presenting Banana Chana Pani Puri."

Watch the video here:

Commenting on the video, a person wrote, "Every time you share a video related to food, I have to sanitize my eyes."

Another user posted, "You are pushing your luck too much."

"That's blasphemous but no harm in trying it may work if jal jeera is too spicy," the third user commented.

Well, this is not the first time we've seen people experimenting with pani puri. Recently, a video of a street food vendor making mango pani puri went viral on the internet. In the video, we could see a man stuffing the puris with chickpeas and mango pulp. However, this unique combination did not sit well with internet users.

Opinion: Lalu Yadav Anoints Rahul Gandhi As "Dulha" Of Opposition Unity

In ancient India, courts had a jester, Vidushak, a person who delivered subtle messages entwined with entertainment. Lalu Prasad Yadav donned that mantle while delivering the concluding remarks at the 15-party conclave in Patna. The BJP's constant refrain about the unity bid initiated by Nitish Kumar was, "Inka dulha kaun hai? (who is their bridegroom?)" The lack of a central face in the non-BJP ranks, referred to as the "Opposition", was thus underscored. Lalu Yadav's ludicrous comment on Rahul Gandhi's beard - with a reference to Narendra Modi - and his advice, "aap dulha baniye, hum sab baraat mein chalengey (you become the bridegroom, we shall be part of the wedding procession)" was said both in jest and in gravity. At one go Lalu Yadav provided a reply to the BJP and also ensured that Nitish Kumar, who was at the centre stage being the convenor and the host of the June 23 confabulation, was not projected as the kingpin.

As things stand, Rahul Gandhi, after his conviction and subsequent disqualification, is out of the race in 2024. (Unless he gets a reprieve in the courts, where his appeal is pending.) Therefore, using him as a pivot for unity does not chagrin those in the non-Congress parties who have reservations about his abilities. His image of not being a serious, 24X7 politician, has changed somewhat after his Bharat Jodo Yatra. As the participants in Patna pointed out, the conclave was attended by representatives from "Kanyakumari to Kashmir" - all the states through which the Yatra had traversed were represented in Patna.

Lalu Yadav is the Phantom of the solidarity move, which germinated in a meeting he had with Sonia Gandhi on September 25 last. He was accompanied by Nitish Kumar, who had then recently severed his ties with the BJP. This was Lalu's first political engagement after he had been taken ill, which left him out of circulation for many months. Thereafter, he went to Singapore for his kidney transplant. The unity effort was amplified after he returned in February. Nitish Kumar was accompanied by Lalu's son and successor, Tejashwi Yadav, whenever he met with leaders across the country to extend an invite.

This was Lalu's first political appearance after he recouped. In the meeting with Sonia Gandhi in September, it had been decided that Nitish Kumar would play a role in reconciling differences between the Congress and some regional parties with which it has been at loggerheads traditionally. The Friday meeting was the initial step towards the fruition of that effort. Lalu Yadav as Bihar's Chief Minister had stopped Lal Krishna Advani's Rath Yatra in 1990. Though that ultimately could not stall the rise and rise of the BJP, even now Lalu feels that he has a role in filibustering the saffron party's juggernaut. In this, he assigns a pivotal role to the Congress. His surreal eulogy for Rahul Gandhi at Patna was an indication of that gameplan.

A hoarding put up in Patna by Janata Dal (United ) said, "Dalon ka nahin Bharatiya dilon ka mahagathbandhan (Grand unity not of parties but of Indian hearts)". This objective was partially achieved. Thirteen of the 15 participating parties seemed to have come on the same page. Seat-sharing or a common programme was not hammered out. It was not on the Patna agenda either. An intention to continue interacting and seek a way forward clearly emerged.

The Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had different tractates.

The onus for organising further confabulation is now on the Congress. Shimla, which had initially been suggested by Congress as the venue for the first meeting in place of Patna, as the party is in power in Himachal Pradesh, has now been accepted as the next stop of the anti-BJP caravan.

The drafting of a common programme and the outline of a possible seat sharing agreement may take place in Shimla sometime in the second week of July.

In July 2003 the Congress has adopted in Shimla a 14-point Shimla Sankalp (Resolve) which drew the roadmap for the formation of the United Progressive Alliance in 2004 - it enabled the Congress to be in power sans a majority of its own for a decade thereafter. Lalu Yadav was one of the initial allies of the Congress in those days. While the Trinamool, despite its reservations, is likely to be in Shimla, the participation of AAP is under a cloud.

As expected, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal was the bull in the China shop. His effort to cajole the Congress to commit its support to vote out the Delhi Services Ordinance in parliament proved futile. This, despite a majority of the participants having committed their support to AAP. Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, who have kept Kejriwal's request for a meeting pending since May 26, refused to relent. Kharge did not outright reject AAP's plea. His premise was that such issues of parliamentary discourse are best scheduled in pre-session floor coordination meetings and ought not to be the agenda of larger political confabulation.

Rahul Gandhi took umbrage at the utterances of some AAP spokespersons who were casting aspersions on the Congress even while the Patna meet was in progress. Kejriwal and his team, which included Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, decided to skip the post-meet media briefing and drove off to the airport in a huff. DMK's MK Stalin too left, but he had no disagreements; DMK was among the 13 parties agreeable to "dilon ka mahagathbandhan".

Mamata Banerjee began her Bihar visit by calling on Lalu at his home and touching his feet. Her gesture was reflective of the key role Lalu plays in the effort. In the United Front days of 1996-98, Lalu had stymied Mulayam Singh Yadav and both HD Devegowda and IK Gujaral emerged as Prime Ministers thanks to Lalu's behind-the-scenes manoeuvres. Thus anyone with national ambition paying obeisance to Lalu is not unprecedented.

Mamata Banerjee had suggested Patna as the venue to Nitish Kumar. In her comment at the media briefing she objected to the participating parties being referred to as "opposition". She was right - six ruling parties of states, including her own, were present. She did not voice her reservation on the Left and on Congress in the media meet but in the meeting she took umbrage at the dharnas against her government, organised by the Congress in West Bengal. In Murshidabad, meanwhile, Bengal Congress chief and leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, berated the Trinamool as a "party of thieves".

The Bengal panchayat elections are marked by bitter acrimony on the ground between the Left and Congress on one side, and the BJP and the ruling Trinamool. The Calcutta High Court had to order the deployment of central police forces to ensure polling is peaceful.

While addressing the National Press Club in Washington DC on June 2, Rahul Gandhi said, "The Opposition is well united; a bit of give and take is required."

In the early hours of June 23 he flew back from his US sojourn. He was received at the Delhi airport by Mallikarjun Kharge and KC Venugopal. The trio then flew to Patna. Their first stop in the Bihar capital was the historic Sadaqat Ashram of 1921 vintage, set up as a Congress office after the Champaran Satyagraha. Addressing party workers there, Kharge said that the initiative for the opposition meeting had been taken by Rahul Gandhi.

Indeed, the meeting had been rescheduled to suit Rahul Gandhi's travel plans. Lalu had telephoned him to ensure he reaches Patna on time. After the meeting, when Nitish Kumar briefed the media first, as the convenor, the next person he beckoned at to speak was Rahul Gandhi, who yielded the space to Kharge. Rahul spoke later. In the meeting, he said, "I came to Patna without any memory, without any history of likes and dislikes." Addressing the media, he stressed the need for accommodation and flexibility. Clearly the strobe light was on him. He seemed to emerge as the fulcrum. Lalu's eulogy, which came towards the end, when the AAP delegation had returned to Delhi, skipping the media meet, and Mamata Banerjee had left, only underscored Rahul Gandhi's pivotal role.

No written statement emerged in Patna. In a major departure from earlier conclaves, there was no photo-op of leaders raising their hands jointly. Significantly, while there is criticism that Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not take questions from the media, on a day he fielded a tough question on India's democracy at a White House press conference in Washington DC, the combined opposition leadership's media meet ended abruptly, soon after the leaders had their say-no questions were entertained.

A beginning has been made. However to say that the Patna confabulation pits together the 60 percent voters who opted not to vote for thr BJP in 2019 may be farfetched. The Biju Janata Dal, Bhartiya Rashtra Samithi, YSRCP, AIMIM, Janata Dal (Secular), Bahujan Samaj Party, Shiromani Akali Dal and many other parties who had their share of the "60 % pie" are not part of the unity moves, which, in any case, are in a nascent stage.

Politics is not mere arithmetic. Apart from calculus, chemistry too plays a role.

The ruling BJP took Patna seriously. Amit Shah in Jammu and Kashmir, JP Nadda in Odisha, Smriti Irani in Delhi and Ravi Shankar Prasad and Sushil Modi in Patna took pot shots at the conclave. Nadda reminded Lalu and Nitish that they were hosting in Jayaprakash Narain's Patna the grandson of Indira Gandhi, who had jailed Opposition leaders during the Emergency.

Clearly, in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, India's politics is slated to reach its acrimonious nadir.

Tailpiece: June 23, the day chosen for the Patna conclave, was the death anniversary of two divergent politicians, who, in their times, carved a niche in history. The founder of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, died in a Kashmir hospital under detention on June 23, 1953. He had been arrested by the government of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on May 8 as he had opposed special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The abrogation of Article 370 by the present government was the culmination of Mukherjee's sacrifice. On June 23, 1980, Sanjay Gandhi, who had been the fulcrum of the revival and return to power of the Congress after the 1977 rout, died in an air crash. Neither the BJP, which traces its roots to the Jan Sangh, nor the Congress, paid tribute to their past leaders on this day.
