Gill's Captaincy Receives Brutal Review After IPL Exit: "You Can't Drop..."

After Gujarat Titans' (GT) bowed out of IPL 2025 with a 20-run defeat to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator, former India batter Robin Uthappa said the Shubman Gill-led side cannot expect to win the championship if they suffer catching lapses and suffer due to flaws in strategy. In New Chandigarh on Friday evening, GT dropped three important catches – two of which were of Rohit Sharma, who went on to make a dashing 50-ball 81. Suryakumar Yadav was also given a reprieve in the 12th over, as MI made 228/5. GT also got their middle overs enforcer Prasidh Krishna to bowl with the new ball, a tactic which backfired as Rohit and Jonny Bairstow came out all guns blazing in the powerplay. "GT's strategy was more reactive than proactive. Using Prasidh in the powerplay – despite his success in middle overs – was a misstep.”

“His first over was expensive, and they failed to course-correct. The 26-run and 22-run overs proved costly. On top of that, their fielding let them down. You can't drop that many catches and expect to win a championship," said Uthappa on JioHotstar.

Uthappa, who previously won IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, reflected on how Rohit made a calculated shift in his batting approach after being given two reprieves.

"After the early drop, Rohit flirted with danger briefly but quickly recognised the need to take control. He shifted gears, played responsibly, found the gaps, and built key partnerships. His composure stood out. When players like Rohit, Dhoni, or Kohli are at the crease, the pressure is on everyone else. Sai Sudharsan is starting to reach that level too."

With MI set to meet Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, Uthappa stated he expects a fierce battle between the two teams. The winner of Qualifier 2 will meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the title clash in Ahmedabad on June 3.

"Punjab are hurting and will come out firing. Mumbai, riding high on momentum, will bring intensity as well. It's set to be a blockbuster, one for the ages," he concluded.

In YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra's Diary, Takeaways From Her 10 Days In Pakistan

YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who has several videos on her social media handles detailing her trips to Pakistan, has been hitting headlines for all the wrong reasons. The 33-year-old has been arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan and is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency and the Intelligence Bureau. Now, two pages of her diary have emerged, which give a glimpse of her 10 days in Pakistan. The diary was recovered by the Haryana Police.

"Today, I have returned to my country, India, after a 10-day trip from Pakistan. During this time, I received a lot of love from the people of Pakistan. Our subscribers and friends also came to meet us. The two days we got to visit Lahore were not enough," read the undated entry.

Using adjectives "crazy and colourful" for Pakistan, she said her experience there can't be described in words.

One of her entries had a request to the Pakistani authorities, "Protect the temples there and let Indians meet their families from whom they were separated in 1947".

The content creator from Haryana, who ran the YouTube channel 'Travel with Jo', was arrested on May 16 and charged under the relevant sections of the Official Secrets Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Jyoti Malhotra was among 12 people who were arrested from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh over the past two weeks on charges of espionage, with investigators pointing at an alleged Pakistan-linked spy network operating in northern India.

The YouTuber's financial transactions and travel details are also under the probe agency scanner. Earlier, police said her known sources of income did not justify her foreign travels.

A forensic analysis of Jyoti's laptop is underway, the police said, adding that they would also question those who were in touch with the YouTuber.

During the investigation, her link to a Pakistani official posted in the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi surfaced. She was allegedly in touch with Ehsan-ur-Rahum alias Danish whom she first met in 2023 during her visit to the Pakistan High Commission, where she went for a visa to visit the neighbouring country. Ehsan-ur-Rahum was expelled on May 13 for "engaging in activities incompatible with his privileged status".

Earlier, Hisar SP Shashank Kumar Sawan said that the YouTuber was being developed as an "asset" by Pakistani intelligence operatives.

"This is modern warfare that is not just fought on the borders. We came across a new modus operandi wherein PIOs were trying to recruit some social media influencers," he said.

The officer also said Jyoti went to Kashmir before the Pahalgam attack and visited Pakistan before that, and police are trying to establish the "links" between these visits.

IPL Playoff Scenarios Explained For All Teams: GT Through, MI And RCB...

Gujarat Titans became the first team to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs with a comprehensive victory over Delhi Capitals on Sunday. Thanks to the result, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings also booked their spot in the Top 4. All three teams are also in the run for the Top 2 spots which will guarantee them two chances to reach the final. Coming to the match, KL Rahul's ton went in vain as Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan produced stunning knocks to clinch the win for GT.

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans became the first team to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs with their win over Delhi Capitals. With 2 matches remaining, GT can reach a maximum of 22 points and the Shubman Gill-led side is one of the favourties to finish in the Top 2 after the group stage.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

GT's win over DC also meant that RCB are through to the playoffs. They can reach a maximum of 21 points if they win the two remaining matches and can finish in the Top 2 if GT lose one match.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Punjab Kings

PBKS also qualified for the playoffs and if they win their next two matches, the Shreyas Iyer-led side can finish in the Top 2 if RCB or GT lose one match.

Mumbai Indians

MI will have to win all of their remaining two matches in order to finish in the Top 4. Two wins will take them to 18 points and their strong Net Run Rate (NRR) can prove to be extremely important.

Delhi Capitals

The loss against GT mean DC will now have to win both of their remaining two matches. However, that will take them to 17 points and their qualification may come down to NRR and other results.

Lucknow Super Giants

LSG face the toughest task when it comes to IPL 2025 playoff qualification. They will have to win their three remaining matches and hope for other results to go their way. Three wins will take LSG's points tally to 16 and it will most certainly come down to Net Run Rate (NRR).

Video: No AC Inside Air India Plane In Delhi, Passenger Shares Ordeal

Passengers of an Air India flight at Delhi airport have complained they were made to sit inside the aircraft without air-conditioning on Sunday. The flight was scheduled to travel to Patna.

Air India in a response to a post on X said operational reasons caused the delay and it told its team to give real-time assistance.

Delhi's daytime temperature on Sunday was 41.1 degree Celsius, slightly above the seasonal average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

One of the passengers of the Air India flight, Rashtriya Janata Dal MLA Rishi Mishra, posted a video on social media explaining the situation.

"This is an Air India flight to Patna. Today is May 18, and it is 4 pm. We are inside the plane for an hour without air-conditioning. You can see how much we are sweating. Children are affected, many people are affected, but there is no one to look into this matter," Mr Mishra, sweat running down his forehead, said in the video he shared from inside the aircraft.

Passengers were seen using inflight reading material as hand fans.

The MLA's brother-in-law and surgeon, Dr Bipin Jha, contacted Air India on X and posted, "Regarding AI2521 Delhi to Patna flight ! Air condition did not work and hundreds of passengers were on board in this scorching heat for 3 hours ! My brother in law who is a politician and EX MLA became unwell ! Can you fix this for the future please."

Air India replied to him: "Dear Mr. Jha, thank you for bringing this to our attention. The flight has been delayed due to operational reasons. Please rest assured, our team has been notified to provide real time assistance. Hope for your kind understanding."

Sources said the plane's AC had malfunctioned. They said Air India would send the passengers to Patna in another flight within half-an-hour.

Shreyas' Big Act Goes Viral After Getting Subbed Out During RR vs PBKS Game

Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer was subbed off at innings break during the IPL 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday. Shreyas, who was suffering from a finger injury, was subbed off after scoring 30 off 25 deliveries, did not field at all during PBKS' bowling. While Shreyas was not on the field, that did not stop the Indian cricket team batter from getting involved. During the match, he was seen having a conversation with fielders at the boundary line and even helping stand-in skipper Shashank Singh with the field set-up. PBKS ended up winning the encounter by 10 runs.

Left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar bowled a match-turning spell after Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh made bruising fifties as Punjab Kings edged closer to an IPL playoff berth with a 10-run win over Rajasthan Royals here on Sunday.

Brar, who came in as a substitute for skipper Shreyas Iyer -- possibly unwell due to extreme heat -- was introduced in the fifth over and the left-arm spinner walked away with an impressive 3/22 in four overs, helping PBKS to restrict RR to 209/7 in the chase of 220.

The Punjab side had earlier made 219 for five riding on an unbeaten on 59 off 30 deliveries (5x4, 3x6) by Shashank and Wadhera (70, 37b, 5x4, 5x6).

With this win, PBKS (NRR: +0.38) climbed to 17 points and they are second on the table behind leaders Royal Challengers Bengaluru (17 points, +0.48) on net run rate difference.

The Ricky Ponting-coached side needs just one more point to secure a playoff berth for the first time since 2014.

Brar, who mixed up his angles, trajectory, and pace with precision, played a big part in that.

His scalps included the 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi (40 off 15; 4x4, 4x6) and Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had launched a brutal assault up front with his (50 off 24).

Together they flew off the blocks with a stand off 76 runs in just 4.1 overs. Azmatullah Omarzai (2/44) then landed a double blow, sending back skipper Sanju Samson (20 off 16) and Shimron Hetmyer (11 off 12), as RR's chase lost steam.

Dhruv Jurel (53 off 31 balls; 3x4, 4x6) hit form to score his second fifty of the season but it went in vain as Marco Jansen (2/41 in three overs) removed him and Wanindu Hasaranga in successive balls in the last over to end their chase.

"DRDO's Performance In Op Sindoor Was Stellar": Scientist In NITI Aayog

Operation Sindoor was a true showcase of India's indigenous competencies developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) deep capabilities, said Dr V.K. Saraswat, a missile scientist, who is a member (S&T) of NITI Aayog. All efforts to demolish DRDO should be buried once and for all, he asserted.

The morale at DRDO, which is home to 5,000 scientists, was hit since two high-powered committees tried to restructure it at a mega level. In 2016, a government-mandated committee headed by Dr P Rama Rao, former secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, was constituted to conduct a comprehensive review of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It led to the creation of seven technology domain-based clusters headed by separate Directors General. It only added to more bureaucracy, said Dr Saraswat.

Subsequently, in 2023, another nine-member committee was set up to "reform" the DRDO, headed by Dr K Vijay Raghavan, a basic science researcher by training and former Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India. The report was never made public, but experts said it had suggested dismembering the DRDO and hiving off its units to other ministries. "It was a futile exercise", asserts Dr Saraswat.

Successful test-firing of Quick Reaction Surface To Air Missile (QRSAM)

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Dr Saraswat said, "Operation Sindoor has demonstrated the capacity and capability of DRDO to build the modern weapon systems in the strategic, air defence, air surveillance system and integrated command and control system sectors for air defence of the country. The success of missiles like Akash, BrahMos, hitting the Pakistani targets in pinpoint accuracy, engaging the Chinese aircraft, demonstrates that DRDO has the capability and capacity to build such a system."

Dr Saraswat, a well-known missile scientist, added, "DRDO has the capacity and capability. And all the talk, which normally people keep saying that DRDO is not performing, has been completely denied and debunked today by the performance of what its weapon system has done."

There was a time when the DRDO acronym was expanded as "Defenceless Research and Dud Organisation" by some critics.

Dr Saraswat said, "I think it's time that all the criticism of the DRDO, which has been going on for so many decades, should be put to rest today because DRDO has demonstrated its capability in all fields of military technology. This was an Atmanirbhar war fought by India with the indigenous weapon systems and technologies developed by DRDO."

"I think people who have been carrying this message through different reports, which have been done, the first report was done by Prof. P Ramarao when I was the secretary of DRDO and the latest report, which has been done by Prof. K VijayRaghavan, former Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, completely shows that their thinking, their process of looking at how DRDO should perform, is completely out of tune."

"DRDO has a very robust system of managing research and development along with industry, academia and within the 39 laboratories of the country. We have a very cohesive method of doing things. We have no regimentation. We have a democratic process of doing research and development, and we are in a position to do all that with the Indian industry," Dr Saraswat said.

"You see the example of Akash. When we realised that Akash had to be manufactured in large numbers to meet future requirements, we went to two production agencies, Bharat Electronics Ltd and Bharat Dynamics Ltd. A large number of subsystems of Akash were coming from the private sector," he added.

"I think Operation Sindoor and many past events have demonstrated that DRDO scientists can design, develop, and manufacture state-of-the-art weapon systems, whether they are ground-based, missiles, aircraft or electronic warfare systems. There is no segment of weaponry which is not handled by DRDO. Such a wide spectrum, I don't think anywhere it is available."

"DRDO is the only organisation which covers every aspect of it, with the support of the armed forces to fight battles at sea, in high altitudes and cold climates. I don't think that there is an organisation equal to DRDO in the country which can provide that kind of a canvas," he said. "Since I am part of the DRDO, and will remain always, we feel that scientists of DRDO should feel very-very proud that they have done a great service to the nation by working relentlessly together in a harmonious manner for the last 50-60 years and brought our country to this level of excellence," Dr Saraswat further said.

After a period of flagging spirits, Dr Saraswat added that after Operation Sindoor, the "josh" is back, and it is also high at the premier defence research organisation. He added that if India has to become a developed country, it has to protect itself through atmanirbhar defence systems

MS Dhoni Skips Practice Again. CSK Coach Says "He Knows Where He Is..."

Crowd favourite MS Dhoni skipped practice for the second consecutive day as fans thronging the Eden Gardens on Tuesday faced disappointment again. However, his ardent supporters took solace from Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Eric Simons' confirmation about the talisman's participation in Wednesday's Indian Premier League match against Kolkata Knight Riders, a must-win outing for the home team. Simons said the 43-year-old Dhoni is "fine" and "will play" the game, which could be his last competitive outing at the hallowed venue. "Yes, he's expected to play tomorrow," said Simons, explaining that Dhoni knows exactly how to manage his preparation.

"With regards to MS, he knows his situation very well. He knows where he is. In terms of his preparations, he always works very hard at the beginning of a tournament and then allows himself to taper off because he gets himself in a space where he's ready.

"So no issues, he just knows when he is prepared and when he's not." Dhoni returned to captaincy duties after skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined with an injury, and Simons said the transition has been seamless.

"You see MS Dhoni as the cricketer, we always see MS Dhoni as the man who is a remarkable individual. His influence on the team, his ability to nurture Rutu, to nurture young cricketers is what's legendary about him," Simons said.

Even when not officially leading, Dhoni's mere presence makes a lot of difference, Simons said.

"His influence is always there. Sure, he now makes the final decisions on movements of fields but his influence -- whether he was captain or not -- was always there without imposing. He doesn't impose himself on anybody.

"He was always an influence, so it was a very smooth transition because of the closeness of his relation with Rutu." Simons also acknowledged the manner in which Dhoni handled the change in leadership.

"From selection conversations to tactics on the field to taking over from someone like him, what made it easier is the way that MS handles those moments.

"He's a remarkable man from that perspective, and it's been pretty smooth for him to step into the role again. Rutu is still around, still part of the conversations," Simons said.

The five-time champions were the first team to be eliminated this season but despite that, Simons insisted the side remains fully committed and engaged.

"Absolutely not going through the motions. There's been some really good work done, discussions around individuals and for us as a team. Obviously, we're a franchise that has a rich history of winning and doing particularly well.

"It's obviously not a great place to be in, but it's been a very rewarding place for us to look at it from a different perspective and from a growth of individuals. It's still been a very rewarding period for us."

WAVES Summit 2025: Sreeleela Spotted With Kartik Aaryan's Mother

Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela will be seen together in an upcoming untitled film, directed by Anurag Basu. In addition to sharing a professional relationship, the duo is rumoured to be romantically involved with each other.

On Thursday, Sreeleela attended the inauguration day of the Waves Summit 2025 in Mumbai. Interestingly, the actress was spotted alongside Kartik Aaryan's mother, Mala Tiwari.

The two were captured standing together in a video shared by a paparazzo handle on Instagram. While Sreeleela looked ethereal in a cream-toned traditional outfit, Mala Tiwari wore a bright pink and orange saree.

Earlier, Kartik Aaryan's mother's statement about her future daughter-in-law's expectations raised a lot of eyebrows at IIFA 2025. When asked what qualities she is looking for in Kartik's future wife, Mala Tiwari revealed that she wants her daughter-in-law to be a doctor.

In a viral video, Kartik's mother said, “The family's demand is a very good doctor."

The Internet took this as a hint towards the actor's speculated lady love. For those who do not know, Sreeleela is also studying to become a doctor.

Some time back, a video of Sreeleela having fun at Kartik Aaryan's family celebration also went viral on social media. The clip showed her dancing with other guests during a house party.

According to the reports, Kartik and his family hosted a celebration for his sister, Dr Kritika Tiwari as she achieved another milestone in her medical career.

On the work front, Sreeleela and Kartik Aaryan's upcoming untitled film is being shot across picturesque locations in Gangtok and Darjeeling. The film, produced by Bhushan Kumar under the T-Series banner, is reportedly targeting a Diwali release.

Meanwhile, the Waves 2025 Summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday morning. According to the Waves website, the event serves as "a key forum for promoting discussions, collaboration, and innovation in the media and entertainment industry" and aims to "bring together industry leaders, stakeholders and innovators to discuss prospects, challenges, promote trade to India, and influence the sector's future."
