Before Iran War, China Amassed World's Largest Oil Stockpile
Ahead of the war in Iran, China aggressively added to its oil reserves, more than any other country, according to the United States government data released this week.
"Prior to the Iran conflict, preliminary government data indicate that China has continued building inventories in 2026," the article stated.
The New York Times reported earlier in the month that China imported 15.8 per cent more oil in January and February compared to the same period last year.
"Oil stockpiling has been taking place for a while now, and Chinese regulators were already preparing for geopolitical tensions to arise from the Trump administration," Cosimo Ries, an energy analyst at Trivium China told the publication.
According to the US Energy Information Administration, China had nearly 1.4 billion barrels of oil put aside compared to 1.2 billion barrels among 32 members of the International Energy Agency (IEA). Of these, the US has 413 million barrels.
Moreover, the US has been drawing out its stockpile. It is left with 405 million barrels after selling 8 million barrels in April. US President Donald Trump has authorised the release of 172 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to combat high energy prices and supply disruptions caused by the conflict with Iran.
Why China Is Stockpiling
The Oxford Institute for Energy Studies said that China is stockpiling due to three factors. First, crude prices remain subdued as global demand continues to soften. Second, risks are intensifying due to potential supply chain disruptions and strict sanctions on major exporters like Russia, Iran, and Venezuela. Third, a new domestic energy mandate now requires companies to increase their strategic reserves to ensure long-term security.
China is very dependent on global oil because it is the world's largest crude oil importer, but it has filled its coffers in a "pretty wise" and "strategic step", as Ries said.
Due to the Iran war, the traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of the world's oil supply flows, has been disrupted.
Iran vowed it would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz as long as the United States continues to blockade its ports.

Despite $120,000 Job Offer, NRI Wants To Return To India: "I'm Too Depressed"
An NRI who recently completed their master's degree and landed a $120,000 (Rs 1.12 crore) job offer in the US said they wanted to return to India as soon as possible. In a social media post, the user detailed that they received the job offer in Austin, Texas, but wanted to return home due to depression caused by the loneliness of living in a foreign land.
"Hey guys, need a help badly. I'm about to finish my MS from Indiana. Got 120k (100k base) offer in Austin. I have about 40k dollar loan pending," the user said in a Reddit post.
The NRI sought the internet's help on how to go about the transition and asked how much they needed to save before leaving the US.
"I'm too depressed right now and just want to save as much as possible before returning. Could someone give me rough estimate about how much will I have in-hand & how much can I save roughly in 3/4 years?"

Social Media Reactions
As the post gained traction, social media users highlighted that paying off the loan, especially in USD, should be the priority for the NRI prior to returning home.
"Given your goal of leaving the US as soon as possible with a 40k loan i'd give myself at least two years of space to pay it back," said one user, while another added: "Clearing the loan and saving approximately 125k is achievable. No state taxes is an added bonus. Since you can't get by without a car in Texas, buy a beater car, and have flatmates. Do not get a brand new or a fairly used car."
A third commented: "I was able to save $150k with $72k job in Florida in four years, lived very frugally like a student in shared accommodation and without a car, no fancy trips & restaurants, was able to cap the monthly expenses to $1k a month."
A fourth said: "Your primary objective should be to pay off your loan while you can earn in USD. Try to make friends who have similar interests. Austin is good place for outdoor activities. That should help your current mental health situation."

3,000 Troops, 5 Ships: Key Pact Allows India, Russia To Share Military Bases
India and Russia can now share army bases, ports, and air bases and station up to 3,000 military personnel in each other's territory, as the Indo-Russian Reciprocal Exchange of Logistics Agreement (RELOS) - signed between New Delhi and Moscow in February 2025 - has become operational.
The pact was signed in Moscow to boost military cooperation and logistics support between India and one of its most reliable allies. The agreement, under which India and Moscow agreed to station five battleships, ten fighter planes and 3,000 soldiers on each other's soil, will remain in effect for 5 years and can be extended, reported the Russian news agency, Sputnik.
The bilateral agreement extends India's strategic reach to the Arctic region -- which is fast becoming the global maritime hotspot, as Russia and China have been increasing their presence in the vast maritime wilderness.
New Delhi will be able to access the massive ports in Russia's Murmansk and Severomorsk.
Moscow is eyeing logistics cooperation from the Indian Navy in the Indian Ocean. The pact will provide Russia with support like refuelling, repair, spare parts and supplies.

The pact, which will be operational in war and peacetime, allows the two nations to save money and time in long-distance missions.
India has signed a similar agreement with the United States. Called LEMOA, or Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement, the pact allows reciprocal access to military facilities for refuelling, supplies and logistics support. However, it differs from RELOS due to the provision of stationing troops. RELOS also allows the exchange of goods if required.
Under RELOS, cost reimbursement, meaning bartering instead of payment, is also possible.
RELOS and LEMOA highlight India's multi-alignment policy.
Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), a Swedish think tank, said in a 2025 report that Russia remained the biggest arms supplier of equipment and systems for the Indian Armed Forces. It noted that between 2020 and 2024, India was the world's second-largest arms importer, with Russia contributing 36 per cent to the country's total defence purchase during the period.

Yuvraj Reveals What Happened After Lalit Modi Offered Porsche For 6 6s
Yuvraj Singh was one of the main architects of India's domination at the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. In a team full of superstars, Yuvraj was the Player of the Tournament in both marquee events that India won under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. While Yuvraj is the holder of many feats, his six sixes against Stuart Broad at the 2007 T20 World Cup still evoke pure nostalgia. In the match at Durban, Yuvraj slammed Broad for six sixes in the 19th over, on the way to scoring a 12-ball half-century.
There is a popular story on social media that former IPL chairman Lalit Modi gifted Yuvraj Singh a car for his six sixes. Yuvraj Singh has finally revealed the actual story.
"He said to me that if someone hits six sixes, I'm going to give him a Ferrari. It just happened, and I was like, 'Where's my Ferrari?' He promised a Porsche 911, and I asked, 'Where's my Porsche?' He said, 'You will get your car.' I asked, 'What if I win the next game? Do I upgrade to a Ferrari?' He said, 'No, no, no, you will only get a Porsche.' But I actually got my car from him," Yuvraj Singh said on The Overlap Cricket.
"I got a BMW M5. He did deliver. He is a man of his word."
Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, who left India in 2010 amid allegations related to tax evasion, money laundering, and proxy ownership linked to the IPL, made a controversial remark while responding to Vaughan's post.
Yuvraj also revealed what transpired between him and Stuart Broad's father, Chris, after he hit the six sixes.
"After the fifth six, I smiled at him and said, 'We're even now, mate. The next one's for me.' His dad, Chris Broad, was the match referee. He came and told me, 'You almost finished my son's career!' He said, 'You need to sign a shirt for Stuart.' On my India shirt, I wrote to Stuart that I've been hit for five sixes, I know how it feels, and I hope you go on to become the best. Lately, I heard that when Chris gave him that shirt, he threw it in the bin!" he said.

'Kutte Ki Dum': Mukesh Khanna On Samay's 'Shaktimaan Ne Bachhe Maare' Remark
A year after Samay Raina landed in a proverbial soup for the infamous episode of his show India's Got Latent featuring Ranveer Allahbadia, the stand-up comedian clapped back at his trolls in his inimitable style through a stage act which only seems to have ruffled more feathers.
A day after clips of Samay Raina's special Still Alive started going 'crazy' on the Internet, veteran actor Mukesh Khanna lashed out at the actor for targeting him.
In an Instagram post, the Shaktimaan star and producer wrote, "Kutte ki dum tedhi rehti hai. Use lakh sheeshiyon mein rakho, baahar nikalo. Phir tedhi ki tedhi. Samay Raina ki bhi ek dum hai. Kitna bhi maaro, seedha karo, wo wapas tedhi ho jaati hai. Kyunki wo seedha-saada praani nahin hai. (The dog's tail remains crooked. You can try putting it in a bottle, bring it out, and it will still be crooked. Samay Raina too has a crooked tail. No matter how much thrash it, straighten it,, it will still go back to being crooked. Because he is not a simple, straightforward creature).
"Wo roasted praani hai... poore desh ne latada maara. Phir aa gaya besharmon ki tarah aur maar khane. Ab ek hee cheez baaqi hai. Uska muh kaala karke gadhe par bitha kar desh bhar ke shehron mein, galiyon mein uski parade karni chahiye jahan bachhe usko ande-tamatar maarein kyunki usne unke superhero Shaktimaan ka apmaan kiya hai (He is a roasted creature... The whole country has already rebuked him. Now, he is back like a shameless person to get more beatings. Now only one thing remains: his face should be blackened, he should be mounted on a donkey, and paraded through all the cities and lanes of the country, where children pelt him with eggs and tomatoes, because he has insulted their superhero Shaktimaan)."
In his 1.21-hour special Still Alive, Samay Raina spoke about how things went south when the India's Got Latent episode went viral on social media for all the wrong reasons. Last year, the comic faced severe backlash after Ranveer Allahbadia landed in a major controversy over his comment on parents and sex at his comedy variety show. Legal trouble, multiple FIRs, and summons from the National Commission for Women (NCW) followed.
Samay Raina pointed out how Mukesh Khanna also waded into the controversy. At the time, the veteran actor had criticised Ranveer Allahbadia.
"This is a serious offence. It should not be taken lightly. Offenders should be punished heavily in order to discourage people in future from making such ashleel and irresponsible statements. Someone asked me what I think should be done. I said, 'You should hold him and beat him. Make him sit on a donkey with his face painted black and make him tour the nation'," Mukesh Khanna had said at the time.
After a year, Samay Raina opened up about how he felt when 'Shaktimaan' himself went after them.
"Shaktiman aa gaya tha yaar. Shaktiman se kaise ladenge? Sorry, Shaktimaan! Tune bachhe maare hain fak-fak-fak karke, tu kya moral high ground lekar baitha hai? (Shaktimaan also joined in. How will we fight Shaktimaan? Sorry, Shaktimaan! Shaktimaan has killed children 'fak-fak-fak karke'. How are you taking the moral high ground?)"
In his special, the comic also announced that he will not back down and bring another season of India's Got Latent after the controversy.

"Give It Up Or Go To Jail": Trump Vows To Find F-15 "Leak", Threatens Media
The second F-15 airman had been missing for hours. Iran, according to President Donald Trump, had no idea. Then a "mole" leaked the information to the media, and a hunt began.
"They Didn't Know There Was Somebody Missing"
Speaking in the White House briefing room on Monday, Trump said a media report revealing that US forces had rescued one F-15 crew member but were still searching for a second had complicated the rescue operation by alerting Iran.
"We're looking very hard to find that leaker. They basically said that we have one, and there's somebody missing. Well, [Iran] didn't know there was somebody missing until this leaker gave the information," Trump said.
Trump said the disclosure forced the US military into a far more difficult position. "It became a much more difficult operation because a leaker leaked that we have one, we've rescued one, but there's another one out there that we're trying to get," he said.
Also read: "Entire Iran Can Be Taken Out In One Night": Trump's Warning Before Deadline
"Give It Up Or Go to Jail"
Trump said US authorities would go directly to the media organisation that published the story and demand the identity of the source, warning of prosecution if they refused. It was not immediately clear which media outlet Trump was talking about.
"We think we'll be able to find it out, because we're going to go to the media company that released it, and we're going to say, 'national security, give it up or go to jail,'" he said.
Iran Issued A Bounty After The Story Broke
Trump said after the report was published, Iran put out a public notice offering a reward for the capture of the missing pilot, which further complicated the search and rescue effort.
"The country, Iran, put out a major notice... offering a very big award for anybody that captures the pilot," Trump said.
"We have to find that leaker, because that's a sick person. Probably didn't realise the extent of how bad it was. I can't imagine that the person did, but we're going to find out. It's national security, and the person who did the story will go to jail if he doesn't say," Trump said.
Inside The US Military's Daring Rescue Op
The F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down over southwestern Iran on Friday, the first confirmed loss of a US combat aircraft inside Iran since the war began on February 28.
Both crew members, a pilot and a weapons systems officer, ejected. The pilot was rescued soon after, but the second airman could not be immediately located.
According to the New York Times, Navy SEAL Team 6 commandos carried out the rescue, with hundreds of special operations troops and other military personnel operating deep inside Iranian territory.
US aircraft dropped bombs and opened fire on Iranian convoys to keep them away from where the airman was hiding. Commandos also fired their weapons to hold off Iranian forces as they moved in, though they did not engage in a direct firefight, the report added.
Before the airman was located, the CIA launched a deception campaign, spreading word inside Iran that US forces had already found him and were attempting a ground extraction.
President Donald Trump said Monday that the two airmen whose fighter jet was downed over Iran are “recovering very well.”
“They are both recovering very well. They were both injured, and they're doing well,” Trump told reporters at the White House Easter Egg Roll.

India, Bangladesh Talk Defence Ties As Dhaka Moves Away From Yunus' Pak Push
Bangladesh's High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, met Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi in New Delhi on Thursday and discussed enhancing defence cooperation between New Delhi and Dhaka. The high-level meeting marks a sharp turn in ties between the two nations after the new government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman took charge in Bangladesh.
"Pleased to meet General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff (Indian Army), at South Block and reflected on Bangladesh-India ties, including defence collaboration," Hmidullah later said in a post on the social media platform X.
Pleased to meet Gen. Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff (#IndianArmy), at South Block; and reflected on 🇧🇩🇮🇳 ties, including #defense collaboration.@adgpi #Bangladesh #India @BDArmyOfficial @BangladeshAFD pic.twitter.com/myg5WexHb7
— Riaz Hamidullah (@hamidullah_riaz) April 2, 2026
The meeting assumes greater significance because it signals a return to collaboration between the two countries. Under the previous government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, the Pakistan Army had tried to gain a footing in Bangladesh, with several top officials from Islamabad visiting Dhaka. Yunus, during his one-and-a-half-year tenure, repeatedly provoked India with irresponsible comments, leading to a further strain in ties.
Under Rahman, who has a Bangladesh First policy, New Delhi and Dhaka have restarted working together, as the two countries share common security goals, especially when it comes to the BBIN (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal) region and the Indian Ocean.
Rehman has also maintained a distance from Islamabad since his return. On March 25, when Bangladesh observes Genocide Day, the Prime Minister condemned the Pakistani military assault of 1971 as "one of the most heinous genocides.
Reset In India-Bangladesh Ties
India and Bangladesh have also been looking at common maritime and energy security goals, with Dhaka participating in the ongoing IOS SAGAR exercise that was flagged off from the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Thursday evening.
Maritime security and energy security have been a concern for the neighbourhood. India, under its Neighbourhood First policy and SAGAR (Security And Growth for All in the Region) and MAHASAGAR (Mutual And Holistic Advancement for Security And Growth Across Regions) visions, has been working to tackle regional security challenges and those arising from conflicts like the West Asia war that has impacted both India and Bangladesh.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), from over a decade ago, Madhavan suggested that the Indian government should opt for French-made Rafale fighter jets instead of other American and European options.
In the Aditya Dhar-directed spy thrillers, Madhavan portrays Ajay Sanyal, a character inspired by India's National Security Advisor (NSA), Ajit Doval. Impressed by Madhavan's defence takes, social media users joked that the actor had been preparing to play Sanyal's character for years.
"My strongest recommendation to the Air Force would be to go for the Rafale. Between the F18, F16, Eurofighter Typhoon, Gripen and the Mig 35," wrote Madhavan in a post dated December 10, 2011.
"The most agile and effortless was the Rafale. Had a very duty-bound tech feel about it. The rockstar is certainly the Su30. We have enough Su30," he added.

In another post, Madhavan detailed the advantage of procuring Rafale while responding to a user's question. "Eurofighter is very impressive, no doubt. The Rafale is slightly less powered but super agile. The Su30 and Rafale combo is ops."

India officially ordered the Rafale fighter jets in 2016, with the first batch of jets arriving in the country in 2020, almost a decade after Madhavan made the suggestion.
Social Media Reactions
As the posts gained traction, social media users highlighted that Madhavan was talking about defence-related issues when it was not the trend on the platform.
"R Madhavan was preparing to play Ajay Sanyal from Dhurandhar since ages. Unreal," said one user while another added: "Madhavan was defence Twitter before defence Twitter even existed."
A third commented: "As a fighter pilot who had a bad experience with Mig 21 in Rang De Basanti, it was surely natural for Madhavan to choose a French aircraft over others, wasn't it !? Lol."
A fourth said: "Bro was running Indian defence Twitter when defence Twitter didn't exist. Come back Maddy..let's post more on defence, tech and fighter jets."
Before becoming an actor, Madhavan dreamt of joining the Indian Army. As a young National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadet, Madhavan had the opportunity to train with the British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force in England. Only eight cadets were picked for the special training, and Madhavan was one of them.
